Post subject:  Wireless Internet Access at Restaurants

Anyone have any information on wireless internet access at a decent restaurant in San Jose? My espanol is limited, but babelfish and IMTranslator is not. Taking lessons, but need the internet in the short term for communication with my Ticas of choice. Anyone with this information?

Willing to explore beyond the gulch.

I know of a couple, but it depends on your definition of "decent restaurant" and how far out of the gulch you are willing to go.

Santa Ana-
Rock and Roll Pollo has wifi, good chicken, breakfast specials, good prices and plenty of Gringos.

Cebolla Verde is a bar on the Old Road has wifi, cheap bocas (not necessarily good) and is packed with locals.

Asucra (sp? means sugar) is a restaurant in Santa Ana with good food and wifi.

Escazu-

Time Out Tavern is a bar with US style sandwiches, good specials, wifi and sports on the air.

The Pub- A bar owned by a German and American couple with bar food and a good Sunday Argentine Grill and wifi

San Jose-

The Sportsman has wifi.

Bagelmans- All have wifi.

I would not walk arounded the Gulch with a laptop in hand or in your back pack you are just asking to get mugged. Start practicing you spanish and walk around with a spanish english dictionary for tranlation if needed.
Be safe!

I went to the Sportsman for wireless. Also, I traveled all over the gulch with a laptop, only my carrying case looked like an oversized leather case (I had enough in it to knock an elephant out cold).

Agreed, there's very few places in this country I'll use a laptop at outside of a private residence, and none of them are in downtown San Jose.

If you do need to transport it, I'd recommend a backpack with a laptop compartment. People have been shot over fractions of a computer's value.
