In Jan. went to Jaco and the Beatle Bar. Then it was a small, dirty open
air bar with wall to wall gringos and Ticas. Just like DR. Playing old
beatle songs gets old.
Went back in July and WOW. Totally remodeled with palm trees along
the patio to block the view. Black walls and mirrors everywhere. About
6 ticas to every gringo. 3 bars and good service. New bar same
Ticas. Only the Western is Tica non friendly and Claritas had no charge.
I stayed 4 nights at Claritas and she just took my hundred and said
that's fine. No hot water but good TV and a safe in room.
Surf at Claritas is best in Jaco and private. Bus to SJ is $15 and goes
from Western to Coca Cola bus terminal in 90 minutes. No stops on
way to Jaco but stopped everywhere on way back.
Bouncers at Beatle Bar not too good. Man passed out at table and
hit his head on a chair. He laid bleeding for about 15 minutes not
moving and no one working there even came over. After about a
half hour an ambliance came and he was hardly breathing. Everyone
there continued drinking and laughing with him on the floor like nothing happened. Welcome to the Jungle.

Dswan,

Thanks, for the update...and welcome to the Board. I visited the BB briefly in January as well when the owners just took over. Glad to hear the place had a face lift.

Peace,

If you are talking about the regular Tico bus from Coca Cola, it is only about $3 if I remember correctly.

The $15 sounds kind of steep to me also... considering I only paid 1740 C one-way to San Isidro. Maybe the $15 is round-trip to Jaco with a chica. :?

My singular concern is whether the place is now air conditioned. If so, then woohoo, it's about damn time! I recall that the place was so damn hot that you had to drink your beer within minutes or it would be be unpalatable. That is, unless you carried your Shawn4delrey beer cozy (tm) with you.

The bus to Jaco 1,350 colones one-way, as of February 2007. He was saying that it made no stops to Jaco which must've been the express bus, but it still wouldn't be $15.

They were smart in cleaning up the place. And enclosing it. Maybe they will survive. Talk from multiple sources is that prostitution is going to be mostly pushed to the outskirts of town by the time all the developments are operational. I haven't been in , but popped my head in and I have to say the BB looks a lot better. Businesses in town are tired of the high profile of prostitution. It will never go away, but IMHO Jaco will be a much different place in 5 years.

Hmmm... I'm probably the only one here that liked the seedy, hodge-podge set up of the bar with the thousand fans all screaming at top speed. I also liked the openess as the evening breezes seemed to cool things down quite a bit. I understand Ciao's complaint about the beer, but I've had them serve me a beer and then put a glass full of ice right next to it.

I'd really hate to see it turn too glitzy and lose that open-air, beachy, third world appeal.

Come to think of it, the "old" BB always worked for me, too...

caiocaio32001,

Was there in July and there was no AC. Did't ask if it was part of the plan. Would have to think if they don't close in the front it's not likely going to be installed. I also thought that the fixing up was a nice touch.

Glitzy or not as long as we can find some fun thats all that matters. :D :D

So, is it still open in the front and the sides? How's the interior look?

So it's partially/mostly enclosed now, with no A/C? Sounds Muy Tico.

Dswan- good report on Jaco. I'm a big fan of Jaco, and glad so see some new infomation coming in.

I may try Claritas next time i'm in town as a low cost alternative. Good to know they have safes in the room.

Btw, $15 for the bus, are u refering to the interbus? cause i think the tica bus is only a couple bucks.

TT
