Post subject:  COFFEE SHOPS

Is there a decent coffee shop where I can get a large cup of coffee? Maybe a place with several choices, similar to the coffee shops in the states? I hate having to always drink my coffee out of a 4oz tea-cup when I'm in the gulch. :x

Shawn, might have to go to McDonald's, Burger King, Denny's, etc. if you want "like in the states". You're in CR--it's Tico-style coffee. :D

there is a small tico joint facing avenida 5 and near calle 6 on your right hand side as you walk against the traffic flow.

it is part of a tico bar joint with the bar part closed in the morning hours.

it is right next to the steps going up to the MP Pensiones.

anyway, they will make you a cup of coffee and serve it in a taller glass for about 30 cents.

it is nice place to visit around 7:30 am with some of the little darlings that work in the nearby MP's stopping by for a quick bite to eat.

try a morning cup of coffee there with a sidewalk view from one of the stools.

Denny's says "NO to Prostitution" so you can't take any hookers with you for coffee Shawn.

in the mercado central area on calle 6, there are several coffee roasters that serve a good sized fresh roasted cup o' joe...

if you buy a kilo or two the coffee is free and the experience is worth the whole trip

Is that true or are you just BSin' Paco? I'm guessing BS, but this is CR and nothing would surprise me!

No problem having a gran slam at Denny's with your "Novia De Jour" just do not try to bring her into the hotel.

Port City Java in Santa Ana is a Starbucks clone. The other option believe it or not is Mcdonalds, which through sheer buying power has great coffee.

Hey Shawn just take your own large (Nascar or Panthers) coffee mug, stumble down to the lobby bar each morning and order 3 or 4 cups of coffee to fill it and tell the bartender to charge it to your room. Should only be an extra couple hundred bucks by the tiime you check out.

The Cafe Brit restaurant rocks its at their plantation where they roast the beans and they give tours.. The tours suck but the coffee shop is great and relatively cheap. Here are the directions. Just look on their site it's worth the trip, just don't bother with the tour, the factory store is a great deal also.

The Café Britt Roastery and CoffeeTour is located in Mercedes Norte de Heredia, on the way to the village of Barva.

To get there by car:

Ask for driving directions to the Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica in Heredia.
When you get to the university, you'll notice a very busy, multi-lane, one-way street that heads north (up hill). Stay on or turn onto this street and follow it up hill (north) to the end. From there, follow the CoffeeTour signs.

I'll bring both of them and let you have the NASCAR mug to make Latinoheat jealous... but only if you promise to walk up there from the prez in your cute little orange Tony Stewart slippers. :P
