Ventured off into the rain filled night with Firedude to beautiful downtown San Pedro to give Yokohama a try. Located about .5 Km east of Mall San Pedro across street from M&N Mall ( 2 blocks south of U Latina). Restaurant is a sushi/Teppanyaki place that looks much better inside than from the outside. One teppanyaki table and many small tables on 2 levels. Sushi bar on lower level. Staff very attentive and strive to please. After reviewing the memu decided to have the teppanyaki grill. Menu had many sushi, seafood , carne , and chicken selections plus 7 or 8 teppanyaki combos. Combo included soup, grilled vegies, main course meat, fried rice, and a postre . Firedude ordered the salamon & I had shrimp... somehow thru the conversation with the grill chef we each got 1/2 of each which turned out to be great... flavor & spicing of both were very good... chef used a some showmanship while preparing meal, especially when his red pepper "volcano' failed to ignite on first attempt then "exploded" after he added more liquor & a match !! Amount of food served was large... neither was able to finish all the vegies & rice served.... then the postre.... watching the chef prepare was almost...( well... almost!) better than the taste... some type of Baked Alaska - ice cream, pound cake, triple sec mixture melted and carmelized on the grill then covered in chocolate sauce... asked the name but promply forgot it.. All in all spent 1 1/2 -2 hrs in restaurant, very relaxed and again staff very attentive. Teppanyaki table will comfortably seat 6 and management says "No problem" for 8 or more... maybe Ticos..not gringos !! Total bill including drinks ( coke & tea) and tip was just over 15K... I'll definitly go back... starting to enjoy my new neighborhood Peace PIDD |

Yo Pidd, Do they also serve "TERRAYAKI"" , which is a very lightly battered deep fried food--- everything from vegies,, shrimp,, and meat morsels. ![]() ![]() Will have to go to that restaurant next time in SJO in June. Enjoyed meeting up with you and Firedude seperately a few days ago, , sorry ran out of time for more time and dinner together. ![]() Enjoy your new life in CR,, blackouts notwithstanding ![]() Cygnus ![]() |

This restaurant has caught my eye more than once on my excursions through San Pedro...I've wanted to try it out. Based upon Pidd's review, I'll give it a shot on my next trip. |

Went there last night with my exgirlfriend. No parking, had to park in the shopping centers lot across the road with no guard of any kind. Restaurant totally empty, usually I avoid an empty restaurant but made an exception in this case. Ordered the chicken teppanyaki and a glass of wine. The wine was one of the worst cups I have ever had. An opened bottle for weeks??? The miso soup was good as was the rice. I expected the chef to cook our dinner on the grill but no he was watching wrestling on the tube. They cooked our meal in the back. The chicken was overcooked , tough and dry. The socalled vegetables were cabbage, sliced carrots and a few peppers. An awful dish even for CR which is saying alot. There is truth in the old adage " never eat in an empty restaurant" |

Pidd, That was a great dinner we had at Yokohama's. The chef did a great job preparing our meal. It was very intertaining watching him prepare the food. Thanks for prying me out of the Gulch and showing me a different side of San Jose. Cygnus, It was great to met up with you again also. I'll be back in Oct. If your around during that time then lets have a couple of cold ones. Firedude |
