Prostoner Correction: The name is the Shannon Restraunt, not Shamrock as I posted earlier. Thanks for the catch!
I ate at the Shannon Restraunt today. It is just north of DR on the corner. I hear it has just recently reopened under this name so figure I'd write a quick report since it's so close to DR.
I had the fish and chips that were quite good. Presentation was excellent and food was very appealing. Saw some other guys eating the shepard's pie and it too looked excellent.
Prices are significantly below that of the DR. Just a few menu items over 2K colone. They have mainly 'American' food like cheesburger, ham and cheese, etc. with most coming cheap. My fish and chips plus a bottle of water was 2600 colone.
Service was quick and friendly. Took a while to cook the food it seemed but nothing unusual in that here in CR. It was very hot and very fresh with fish so soft and flaky I had a hard time dipping it in the supplied tarter sauce. Also, the ketchup was good unlike most places here in SJ.
In conclusion, it's a great place to grab a cheap bite close to DR and I recommend it!

I ate there St. Paddy's Day - they had awesome authentic lamb stew for that occasion. It was Just opened so sorta hectic but looked like strong management, I thought at the time they would do well. It's a nice place the way they have it remodeled. Walking from DR it is where the old Chinese resturant used to be, Just Before you get to the corner place now Tico soda/bar that used to be Morazon Cafe.

Thanks Prostoner damned if I could remember the name. I liked it too.

No, that's west  North from the HDR towards the SL, just past the gated drive entrance to Sleep Inn. Glad to know of another place with real ketchup!

I had lunch there last week and agree with PS, nice alternative. I had the plato del dia, casado with pork chop, rice, beans & salad, all for $19K colones.

This is good to know. When I was in San Jose during the months of January and February, I noticed this place was being remodeled and had wondered what it was going be. I'll be sure to try it out in June. :)

Jdd....you may want to correct the price you said that you paid for your lunch. 19,000 col.(19K) is quite expensive. My guess is that you meant to say 1900 col.

Oops! You're right VB, it was 1900 colones, my mistake. I also think the name might be Shannon not Shamrock.

Pidd and I ate there last night. We each had the previously recommended fish and chips. We also had a bottle of coke and the price was a VERY reasonable 3000 colones each. There dinner menu was fairly limited(written on a chalkboard) and the specials for the evening were 3500 colones. These were some fish dishes, arroz con camarones, and some others. For price, quality, convenience, I recommend this new place.I will be back.

This must be one of Pidd`s favorite spots, because I had dinner here with him on Tues night...small filet mignon with mushroom sauce, potatoes and mixed vegetables...all for only 3500 col AND they served it very quickly.
I will definitely return there on my next trip.

I had lunch there last week, the food was excellent for the price, the service was just so so, the bartender does have an attitude problem.

A "favorita" and I spotted Shannon Restaurant on the walk back from the gulch last night. We tried it out, liked it very much. The food and drink is reasonably priced and there a wide selection of 1000 C "bocas" on the menu. (The barbecue pork ribs were great.) I chatted with the manager, Jimmy, a friendly and hospitable guy from Limon. He gave me a copy of their menu for future reference.
