Post subject:  Pappadeaux's Restaurant
A couple of weeks ago when I was returning home from CR, I had a lengthy layover at Houston. Normally, I barely have time to get to my connecting flight :roll: Well, In the Houston airport I found a genuine New Orleans restaurant called Pappadeaux's. They served me the best meal I've ever eaten in an airport, and I've been flyingh the world for over 50 years. I had fresh oystes on the half shell, a sublime crawfish etouffee with lots of crawdad meat and a generous portion of fired crawfish and some hand breaded calamari. So, if you are in Houston's airport and have tie for a great meal on your way to or from CR, try it.

You can find land based Pappadeaux's resturants almost everywhere in the South. They are a huge chain. www.pappadeaux.com

El V I must point out that this chain of restraunts was started by a Greek family named Pappas.The own Pappas Bros Steakhouse, Pappas Seafood rest. , Pappcitas Mexican Rest. & saveral others.

I will admit that their food is good, but having spent 15 years in New Orleans, its not N O quality. definately the best in the Houston airport.

Hey Boudmon, do you know if the restaurant Dooky Chase in NO survived the storm? Best Bushalini and Squirrel Pie and Pork Chops with smothered greens I have ever had.

Now where's Ellie May when ya git talk'in Squirrel Pie?

It has been a long while since I ate in New Orleans, and even if Papadeaux' is a chain, it was still the best airport meal I've ever had. They were actually makng the cesar salad tableside..in an airport yet.
Wish they'ed open one in Va near me.

I was in the Chicago area a year or so ago and stopped in their location and they had a Thursday night special for all you could eat lobster. I think it was $30. I remember it was wonderful. I ate 5 lobsters. Great upscale casual.

HolaB, no info on that rest. I agree they should open more Papadeaux rest. in airports. They do a good job.

Don't get me wrong guys! I have eaten at a fewof the most of the popular Sodas in San jose. I also have eaten at Pollo Camperos, Princessa Marinas, Hamburger Factory, etc.

However when I am away from H-Town proper by way of Sugaland of course. I would like a tender 10 to 12 ounce ribeye steak with hot tender fries. A salad with 1000 Island dressing. Dam'n I am hungry now!

Check it out. I tried the Outback last November and I gave them about 5.5 on the Ribeye and Fries.

Maybe they have built a Chili's, Bennigans, Applebees, Red Lobster, or something familiar since November. Hip me to it if it has happened.

Post subject:  Pappadeaux- Houston Airport
It's been a long time since I stepped foot into Houston Airport... 1973 to be exact, on my way to NAS Corpus Christi. During this past trip to Colombia, I met Rainman3 & El Gringo at Pappadeaux- IAH. They were on the same flight to Bogota. By the time I arrived from Philly, the place was closed up, but the bar was still open. RM3 & EG were getting primed for the 11:00 pm flight to Bogota.

On the return trip, I had another 3 hour layover in IAH, and decided I would try dinner here. I was not disappointed. For a few $s more than standard airport fare (burgers, sandwiches, pizza, etc.), I ordered a delicious dinner of Shrimp Etouffe (sp?) with garlic bread. Although I realize the New Orlean's cuisine at this place may not be up to the standards of an authentic meal in New Orleans, it was pretty damned good. If ever take the "back-door" route (via Houston) to Colombia again, I plan on dining at Pappadeaux. This restaurant almost makes a layover in Houston a pleasure. The restaurant is located on the 2nd level, next to Gate E-4.

Pappadeaux's does a lunch buffet on weekdays at IAH.

I want to say it was $10 for the buffet.

Not alot of choices on the buffet. But whatever is there is fresh and good.

I highly recommend it.

If you can get seated right away it's pretty quick as well.

I still fly through Houston often. If my layovers were longer that 50 minutes, I could stop in that place more often. It's not New Orleans, but, it is the best airport meal I've found anywhere.

You are right, for a little extra $$$ you can go from mass fast food on the public walkway to a nice relaxed sit-down meal that is very good.
