Besides buying beer at the Mas o menos and sitting in my room chugging, where is the cheapest place in the Gulch to pound some brews (beer only please) before getting the night going. My friends and I are pretty hardcore drinkers and run up a tab easily at $3 bucks a beer and would like to find a relaxed cheaper place to drink and maybe get a bite to eat without going broke as we consume a 12 pack each before going out for the night.

Also is it customary to tip at a "bar" or is a 10% added in already to the price of each beer?

at MARISICAR , they have 2 for 1 imperials, also great chicken . tip is included, but i always throw in a few c for tip. ate there 3 days in a row , service is GREAT pura vida

I have read a lot about that place on this board for the food but didn't know they had two for one Imperials (which I am looking forward to trying). I will definately check it out. Thanks for the heads up Florida

New York is a place I like but it's not really cheap. But yes, there are working girls who frequent the place and I even got a FREEBIE there once, which, if you know what I look like, is AMAZING! Nashville Sur has a good happy hour, I think it's 5:30 to 6:30, 2 for 1. After that, back to reality.

There are several places on the edge of the gulch that are MUCH cheaper than any mentioned here so far, except for Mariscar. The 1930 Club on Calle 7 between Avenida Central and Avenida 2 is a good place in the afternoon, with good bocas and cheap beers. Los Condes, next to the Hotel Asia on Calle 11 is probably the cheapest, but I prefer Chicheronera Rancho Alegre, also on 11. If you are looking for, "compania," it is the wrong place to go, but the bocas are good, as are the prices. Nobody will try to sell you a carved coconut there either.
