On Saturday night, my girl and I went to Mirador Ram Luna, up in the mountains in AsserÃ. It's about an $10-12 taxi ride each way from the city, about 35-40 minutes out. It's a very interesting ride up the winding mountain road in total darkness. The view from the restaurant is very nice. The food was excellent. I had the Ceviche (which comes with tortilla chips) and then Lomito Mirador (steak) on the suggestion of some online food critic. Both were great. That steak comes with 3 different sauces which add a lot of flavor. My girl told the waiter it was my birthday and after we finished they brought me a piece of cake and sang happy birthday. How embarrassing. ![]() The only thing that I didn't like was that it was very dark in the restaurant. The only lights were candles. I understand that they do it this way to enhance the view and ambiance, but when you can't see exactly what you are eating with your steak, it's a bit too dark. (I thought I was eating sweet potatoes, but it turns out they were bananas. ![]() I'd recommend it with a novia. The food is less expensive that I thought it would be. The meal for two, appetizers and main course (no dessert and no alcohol/wine), was about $65. If you have any questions, either PM me or ask here. |

LVSteve wrote: I've heard its expensive. Is that true? Not too bad, it was about $60-65 for the both of us, appetizers and main course. No dessert and no wine. The freakin taxi was expensive, about 5,000-6,000¢ each way. And it's way out there up in the mountains, so dress warm!!! We went on a Saturday night, my birthday. I didn't know there was a shuttle. The taxi was about 11,000¢ RT (~$21) and he waited for us (no charge). It's far and you go up a very dangerous, dark, winding road. But I'd recommend it once. |

Look Guys.....this place is not for cheap phuckers!......the r/t cab ride will cost more than your normal dinner in CR.......So if you want to take a special lady/chica to dinner with a fantastic romantic view.........take the rubber band off phuckers!........This ain't no Mickey d's....pointer....make sure the weather/sky is clear......otherwise choose another restaurante! I have a date there soon! ![]() |

GGhost is right-it is much nicer on a clear night. I have gone a few times during the off season, even on Tico Nite, and have never had a reservation. It probably wouldn't hurt to call ahead on weekends or holidays. As far as cost, I doubt that it would break any of you guys, but it is much nicer with a chica especial |

I made reservations there when i was there last december, but had to cancel. they did send me the following info though: On wednesday we offer that typical night called "Tierra Tica" (Costarrican Land) which is a complete show with our typical menu of costarrican cusine, and we have a complete show with typical dances. The price of the package is $ 28 dollars per person and includes the whole show, costarrican beer, liquor, the buffet and its all you can eat and drink and also tax included. If you have any question please contact us and I be glad to help you as soon as posible. Thank you, Gabriel Ramirez Ram-Luna Restaurant Their email is: ramluna@racsa.co.cr |

Hey LV Steve, and the rest of you guys, Ram Luna is one of my favorite places, I try to go at least once every trip when I'm in CR. The atmosphere and the view are great and the food is good and by my standards not that expensive for a class restaurant in CR. Do go on a clear night and go with a special chica and/or another couple you are friends with. I would recommend having the taxi wait for you or use a regular driver if you have one. It reminds me of some of the mountain top restaurants in Germany and Austria. It is very peaceful and romantic and on a clear night with a full moon, you can almost see the werewolves waiting in the fog on the way down, good for cuddling up with a guillable sweet young thing. Just kidding, its a great place. Goetz |

I had a rental car this weekend, so my girl and I went up the mountain past Ram Luna to see what is out there. We stopped at a small Tico (typical) restaurant. They tried to slip the gringo (me ![]() The obvious question would then be: THEN WHY THE Phuck WOULD YOU SERVE IT TO ME????? (This belongs in the Muy Tico thread). They didn't charge me for it ($15). I just ate some of my girl's chicharrones. We should have just went to Ram Luna. It's a little more expensive but so worth it. |

Next time you are in that area continue past Ram Luna about 5K. On the right side when you start going down the mountain is Donde Alcides (AKA Pork Chop hill). Stop in have some great pork chops and go away full and with a smile when you get the bill. ![]() |
