RESTAURANTE SAN JOSE AT HOTEL PARK
The renovated Hotel Park (still on A4 between C2/C4) features the new Restaurante San Jose. I visited there Friday, October 27, 2006 at about 12:30 PM. I was surprised at how classy the place looked. Yes, I’m using ‘classy’ and ‘Hotel Park’ in the same paragraph. It’s located in a large pink room with a high ceiling and skylights. Two walls are covered with blow ups of historical photographs showing San Jose in the 19th century. It has a nice ambiance, and modern furniture with white linen on the tables. There were about 15 well-dressed Tico men and woman enjoying lunch (probably from the nearby Bancocredito). It actually had a wholesome atmosphere, which was strange considering it is in the Parque Central area.
They had a full menu printed up, but were only offering the buffet at lunch time. The full menu had just about everything you could want with separate sections for carnes, seafood, italian dishes, appetizers and deserts.
They have a breakfast buffet for ¢1390 ($2.70), and lunch and dinner buffet for ¢2190 ($4.25). The lunch I had was very good. I had 2 full plates and sampled everything. The buffet included:
Fruit drink of choice
Appetizers:
pasta salad green salad avocados tomatoes several freshly-made dressings
Main Buffet:
pork chops with gravy BBQ chicken rice black beans boiled potatoes fried plantain onion rings cooked cauliflower
Dessert: ice cream
If you used to go to the old Hotel Park, you may be interested in seeing what Bill could have done with that place. The hotel section is being renovated. There are 6 rooms ready for occupancy downstairs, and 12 more rooms upstairs that should be ready in two months. The rooms are still shabby and depressing even with a new paint job. A new bar is scheduled to open in one month.
There is a private party scheduled for Tuesday, November 7th, at 9:00 PM. All CRTers are invited. Admission price includes food, drinks, and lots of dancing girls. See my post in the Hotels Forum for more information.
