A while ago, reports of Fogo Brasil's demise were written....Any current first hand into?

Last I knew, and have not heard any info to the contrary, they were still open. However with the increasing price and, what I think, poor quality of the meats served not sure how long they will remain open.

I think there are a lot better choices for a good meal in San Jose. As always YMMV

While I have had decent meals and good times there, I do find Fogos meat a bit over rated. Much of what they bring around is too cooked for my rare/medium rare tastes. Then after building this nice huge restaurant with expensive furnishings and atmosphere, they put up a big screen TV at the end of the restaurant and run soccer games etc quite often during your meal. IN addition, it is quite a loud atmosphere for quiet intimate conversation. While I like the valet parking and the front door greeters and servers, I still think better values and atmospheres are available in San Jose. And with it's fickle market and limited population who can afford their prices...it wouldnt surprise me if it closes within a year.

I give it 3.5 stars...out of 5 8)

I ate at Fogo's while in town last month. The food was good, as was the atmosphere. Also, it was nice to walk outside, and jump into their new shuttle for a ride back to my hotel. But, I definitely feel that it was overpriced. For a party of four, the check came to around $150, and we only had one drink each. I wish them luck, but I also wonder how long they will survive, due to their high prices.

Word is that Donde Carlos is an awesome steak house and Chriscarria Brazilia beats Fogo Brazil for quality of meat, although the salad bar is a bit smaller. Prices are reported to be better.

I was there in October and we enjoyed it, but that was 6 months ago.

There is always Outback!!!!! I believe I ate at Chriscarria Brazilia on my first trip. If that the place with the charcoal grill pit in the kitchen. Meat was tuffer than US meats.

It was my first night and I was more interested in my company than the meal.

Thanks for the feedback gents. I was there several times over the holidays, and yes, the beef is very different than American beef (no need to debate it, it just is). I had heard from people who previosly enjoyed it that it had gone quickly down hill. It sounds like it has gone up a great deal. I remmember it being about $17 per person, for the basic meal.

I ate there last week and thought it was great. Ate as much as I wanted, dropped a few bucks, had some wine, good beef, chicken and pork. Finsihed the meal with a espresso, dessert. sambucca and and a cigar. I would like to do it all over again.

I ate at Fogo and donde Carlos.
I like Donde Carlos just a little better.
Fogo is an all you can eat place for a set price of $ 24 a person.
They have a large pasta salad bar, and the meats just keep coming.
If you eat alot and can do it for hours Fogo is the place.
They serve you different parts of the cow to your table.

Donde Carlos is a smaller quiter place with a upstairs that serves Argentine steaks. Not all you can eat here. My bill came out to around 10,000 C with my CRT discount for the Steak, potato mushrooms.

Went there for lunch last week with another CRT'er. It was decent, but I most likely won't go there again.

The salad bar is fantastic, the meat was a bit dry and over cooked. They do make a Hell of a Mojito though. We were the only gringos in there, and the place was about half packed.

One explanation for the meat not being that good may be due to the lunch hour and lower amount of people there. It probably wasn't as freshly cooked as it may typically be in the evening with more patrons.
