if you do a search for "western" in the hotel catagory, you will find that there are reviews.

in a nutshell, the reviews say the neighborhood is not the best but there seems to not be a chica fee. (though one member remarked they must have a cedula ID to check into the front desk)

if the room is included in a package deal, then you don't have much choice anyway.

it may not be as nice as the SL or as conveniently located as the Presidente, but I wouldn't turn down a cheap trip to CR if I had to stay at the Best Western.

During the day you should be fine, it's within easy walking distance of the gulch center.

Take taxi's at night.

Ediget,

I realize you dont have much time but if at all possible see if you can get into another hotel(chica friendly of course). If this is your first time in CR then your first impression will not be a good one. The neighborhood is horrible. Take Californicationdude's advice and always take a taxi at night. You may even want to take one in the day. There's some real shady characters hanging out just one block away.

Many CRT guys have stayed there and the hotel usually gets favorable reviews. Seeing how it has become almost necessary to have to take a cab from the HDR to the Presidente due not see the necessity for a cab at night as a huge drawback.

I guess you could say the neigborhood has some seedy characters but not a deal breaker.Just be on your guard and carry money or wallet in front pocket which is true anywhere in San Jose and as outhers have said take a taxi at night. These days the Del Rey to Presidente is as bad as anywhere else on getting mugged as ID says. There are also several budget priced options to hobby in the area like Monaco,747 and Chachacha. Also Calle 6 places for seasoned travelers.rbc100

You know, that is the first place the thieves are going for these days. In that area, I would use my under as the best storage area. :P :P Although may not work around the parks

I stayed there once a while back. I liked the hotel and they never charged me for a chica. It is about a ten to fifteen minute walk to the Del Rey. I lilke to walk and I walked during the day several times to the DR without a problem. WMB774

Ediget,
Welcome to the board. If I were you, I'd seriously consider a VIP membership. You'll find some valuable information in the VIP section, that you can not view without your membership. The numerous discounts that you'll receive will pay for your membership 10 times over. And don't forget the VIP Photo Gallery!

If you're pressed for time, you can pick up your VIP Membership card when you get into town, at Zona Blue. Have a great time, and welcome aboard.

Ediget,
Welcome to CRT.

One tip, if you have a HOTEL question, post it in the HOTEL section, not restaurants.

I stayed at the BW in Feb. (I had a coupon for $150 off a package through Expedia). It's OK. I would stay there again if necessary.

Yes, you must take a taxi at night but during the day the walk is good exercise (a couple hills). It's about 1 mile from the Del Rey.

Here is a liink to my review:
