Machu Picchu (222-7384)
Calle 32, between Avenidas 1 and 3,
150m (492 ft.) north of the Kentucky Fried Chicken
on Paseo Colón, In La Sabana/Paseo Colón

Machu Picchu is an unpretentious little restaurant that has become one of the most popular places in San José. I personally am not big on fish, so this place is off my list of normal stops. My wife goes so often I think they have her own table.

One of her favorite entrees is the causa limeña, lemon-flavored mashed potatoes stuffed with shrimp. Which was recommended by a dining site, on the web and if I go I often eat that as well?

The ceviche here is excellent, again according to her, as I do not eat it. I personally like the ají de gallina, a dish of shredded chicken in a fragrant cream sauce. The octopus with garlic butter is popular but not for me.

For main dishes, I recommend corvina a lo macho, sea bass in a slightly spicy tomato-based seafood sauce. (AGAIN FISH EATERS only as it has a bite to it.

They recently opened a sister restaurant (tel. 283-3679) over in San Pedro.

All Major Credit Cards Accepted, very busy at lunchtime and reservations are suggested.

Post subject:  Good experience at machu pichu

Last night my buddy and I stopped here for dinner and then planned to hit Oaisis for a massage. Food was great. I had something xxxxx machu pichu, which was a shelfish platter. I´m a big guy, but I had a hard time eating it all. We had a total of 4 beers, appatizers, and 2 meals... Total price was about $23 US. Only bad news was that Oasis (across the street) had just closed at 7:00 pm... At least that is what the security guy told us.

I have posted a long review of Machu Pichu previously so I will not repeat it in this thread (I agree it is fantastic and have enjoyed every item mentioned and more and all great) the only comment I suggest is to definitely go to the original Machu Pichu which is off of Paseo Colon a block of so from the KFC and to avoid the new one near San Pedro. The food at the new one was good but not as good as the original and the clientele were mostly arrogant and seemed rude and the service was way below the standard which I have come to expect at the other one. In fact our waiter was inattentive and not very polite, had to keep asking for the same things and he accidentally dropped some plates while passing our table and they broke and food scraps went all over my friends pants and shoes and the waiter just kept going and he did not pick the stuff up. Rather a busboy came like five minutes later, I think the waiter was embarrassed but at least he could have apologized. Definitely go to the one by KFC but the San Pedro was a mild dissapointment. I have never needed reservations and have been probably fifty times.

To be honest with you guys...I have eaten at Machu Pichu restaurant right across from Oasis and I was not impressed with the food there. But then again, I am not an expert on fine wine and fine food. I thought the food, in general, taste just a little better than average.

The best thing about Machu Pichu is that with all the corvina cooking in the back, the whole restaurant smells like vagina.

The food is good too.

My last trip ( last week) I went to the one in san pdero and enjoyed the food greatly.

The one in san pedro has an open dining area in their "green space" off the main dining room. It is nice in the evening but you are practiclly sitting ontop of the tables next to you. Not a fondle em/DFK/by candelight/type place. But the food is good.

I had the filet of sea bass stuffed with jumbo shrimp in a shrimp cream sauce. It was excellent! Although the serving was a little smaller than my expectation.

Paco....we will have to hit it maybe on sunday night this week.

Just my four cents worth.
