Ok, I am planning my first trip and doing as much research as my free time allows. I love Cuban food and Capt. Morgans rum. Are either of these avail. in CR? I seen a post somewhere where the members were talking about the "cuban soda", Located near Oasis. I hate to ask the stupid question but I'll be McFly here, is this a Cuban Restaraunt? Also, will I be able to find Capt. Morgans Rum? If not, any recomendations for something close?

Las Charitos is the name of the place.It is about 75 meters South of Paseo Colon on left.Same street as Veronicas massage is on.Excellent and very nice little soda.Also great prices.rbc100

There is a Cuban restaurant in Plaza Itskatzu, the plaza that has Courtyard by Marriott, Outback, Hooters, etc, called La Guagua. I have never eaten there but have heard positive feedback from those that have. Sorry do not know the pricing level but most places in that plaza tend to be upscale.

I can't recall ever seeing Captain Morgan rum in CR.

Dirty Sanchez...The main rum in CR is Ron Centenario. It is an excellent rum; very smooth. Once you try it, you'll forget all about Captain Morgan. Like yourself, I drink Captain Morgan a lot in the US. Ron Centenario is in a different class entirely. It's even better than Captain Morgan's premium rum ('Private Stock'). Just a caveat...it can be habit-forming!

Yes, the Cuban restaurant near Oasis, Los Charritos is a Cuban soda. Their carne al pastor tacos are incredible! As are the grilled meat burritos. Fantastic!

Maybe RBC still has the business card from our visit to Los Charritos and can give better street directions than I, but I remember that the soda is on a perpendicular street to Paseo Colon and a half-block south. It's actually closer to Veronica's Massajes than Oasis, and two doors down from El Favorito Chinese restaurant. It's a great little place, and very reasonably priced.

Personally, I think Cap'n Morgan tastes like bay rum aftershave, and I can't stand it. I've never looked for it in C.R.; why would I? One can buy really premium rums, like Flor de Cana or Centenario Anejo for very little money. And yes, you can buy Bacardi...yecch.

thanks for the replies everyone, looks like I have 2 places to put on my "to do" list when I am in town. Living in Ohio I don't get to enjoy Cuban food, just bad Mexican food.

Looks like I am gonna have a few rums to try out, as many chicas as humanly possible and some great Cuban food! Damn, does it get any better? Is it Feburary yet???

Ha, no Gypsy! Just a name from a funny old bit from the good old days of Howard Stern. I only get Cuban food when I am in Fla. or Vegas. Hopefully when I am in paradise in a few months I'll try these 2 places out that are mentioned here.

I was curious beacuse I'm Cuban.
The Florida Cafe, here in Vegas, has excellent Cuban food. Just watch out, there's a lot of calories in Cuban food, and I have a big belly to prove it!

When I was in Vegas last May, I was in the Florida Cafe for several meals. Very good, wish it wasn't so far off the strip. I guess I burned off those calories walking form the Stratosphere to the resteraunt.

the Escazu restaurant is called La Gua gua .. very good
