Well guys - Wednesday came and my plans for Mirador Ram Luna went out the window. It was pouring rain and I just couldn't see driving in that storm. Long story short, bagged the idea of MRL and went to a restaurant called La Patagonia in Escazu.

Had appetizers of Chorizo, Escargot (in a creme sauce - never had it before), and some dish with porcini mushrooms. Everyone had the Entrana for their entree which was excellent. A bottle of Malbec with dinner - and for dessert we shared a flan dish that was heavier than normal (maybe it was called flan de queso - something like a cheesecake version of flan). Anyway it was all good and the tab for 4 was $250.00 - all courses through Don Rico's mandatory Sambuca!

Peace, Love, and Happiness for all.

DR

The last mention of La Patagonia Restaurant being in '04, I thought I'd update it a bit with this: http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant ... _Jose.html
contact info at bottom of reviews
Here's another listing of it (note: old-style ph.#): http://www.strayreality.com/dir_restaurants3.htm

Ate at La Chandelier last night with my favorita, wingy and his date and another friend (5 in total) Spared no expense, ate and drank like lords - cocktails, two bottles of wine, after dinner drinks, etc... - I had the duck, somebody had the lamb, a couple had different cuts of beef - everything was excellent - including presentation and service. One big problem - the tab was $600.00 bucks!!!

After reading stuff like this, it seems like Costa Rica is becoming less "Costa Rican." :| This place got a $$$$ rating in Fodors. Glad to hear the meal was "excellent." :)

Since traditional Costa Rican cuisine is dismissed as bland by food people, there is a demand for upscale places serving "international cuisine" by fat cat gringos. :P

Me, I'm perfectly happy with having only rice and beans and chicken. :D

Yeah, I know what you mean...

Agree, very happy with the local stuff. Another is a Colombian restaurant, down from the Presidente on the left. Although, living here, it is always nice to find a nicer restaurant for a change. Many good one mentioned here. Have been going to Cafe Mundo for years, Taj Mahal, Machu Pichu and many more...

Hey DR, are you going to review the place we had dinner on Thursday night - Mi Sala? The Chicken Alfredo was very tasty.

Okay Bro - Here goes but MH - chime in here with your opinions as well. Wingy and I extended our trip one day so we could party with The Miamiheller and Jamrock. A business associate of mine in CR recommended a restaurant called Mi Sala - My associate said it had some of the best "views" in Costa Rica. I clarified that by views he meant chicas and he responded in the affirmative. Mi Sala is an elegant place in Escazu known for high end cocktails, a very chic atmosphere, and always full of top shelf chicas.

We arrived around 9:00 PM and found the place to be as advertised - It was actually a great place to kick off the evening because MH had reserved a table at Prive for us and our chicas later that night. After a few rounds of cocktails - we ordered - I wasn't hungry so I just had a tomato soup (excellent) and my chica ordered the fried Calamari (also very good). everyone seemed to enjoy the place and as MH mentions above he really enjoyed his Chicken Alfredo.

This place is more about atmosphere than food - a constant mix of house music, electronica, latin, and gringo music plays in the background (or just slightly louder than the background), the tables were elegant - I remember lots of crystal chandeliers etc... If you want to impress a chica with a great total evening - start at Misala and finish at Prive. You and your chica will be very happy - total bill for 7 was probably $350.00 (note my part of the tab was a soup and alot limes that went with my cocktails!!!!).

I would definitely repeat the experience but for sure this one is better with a group that is in the mood to party as opposed to a romantic evening with your girl!!!

Peace, Love, and Happiness for all,

Don Rico

Thanks brother JazzBo for the shoutout.

Agree 100% with DR's review. Nice upscale place. The food was good and the view was EXCELLENT.. no HDR colombianas here! (NTTAWWT) We noticed part of the "view" migrated to Prive later on that night.

BTW, Mi Sala turns into a club after dinner -- the music gets pumped up and part of the dining area gets cleared for dancing after 10 PM. Lots of comfy sofas and loveseats (hence, "Mi Sala") inside. Outdoor, cafe-style seating is also available if you're not in the mood for hubbub.

No direct knowledge but it was mentioned favorably here as long ago as '06 as an upscale restaurant (the name is a play on words--it's a Dante-themed venue). Here's a review Website with contact info and location, in case the venue's Website doesn't respond:

The Dante theme is enough for me to justify trying it! Never heard of such a place.

Peace,

I hazard to guess that besides a limited understanding of written English, you are making a prohibited commercial post? :D

Oh yes> Brother TB, check out his tagline--it's a disguised commercial message for a place neither of us will frequent--or even occasional. Nice places though nowhere near CR. Weren't CR restaurants the point of this Thread?
