Agree 100% with Brother El Viejo. If we could just get the original poster Brother Hand-Solo to retitle it to reflect what it's become...and put this now-miserable place out of our minds...

That placel has the worst, overpriced food in all of San Jose. The meat is seco (Dry) and never juicy. You need to go to a real Churrascaria in Brazil or somewhere like Beverly Hills.

I can't vouch for the quality of the food recently, but for those bitching about the price.. you need to take a chill pill.

Meat is expensive in Costa Rica, that is if you don't want the crappy local beef. Thus, a restaurant that primarily specializes in beef is going to cost more than you're used to in the states. That's just the way it is here.

Go to outback, and you'll spend $50 on average per plate (if you're not getting hanburgers). Phuck, the crappy steak at TGIFridays is $40. Tony Romas is slightly better, but not much.

Yes, you can find better deals if you go to the smaller places, but geez.. $45 is not a lot of money, assuming the quality is average to good (which many reports say it's not, but then again I question what they're comparing it to.. It's hard to get good beef in CR).

But four years ago it was only $17- inflation has not been THAT high for a steak. Also, I direct you to Balcon Europa, where you can get a very nice steak for $20 bucks and change..they may even have chill pills......

Brother TMG--If it were just the rapid price increase, we'd complain but not as much. It seems that the whole experience has deteriorated and the staff seems defeated or uncaring. Plus they used to have a great Samba show which also disappeared. We're not comparing this place now with any other place now--we're comparing this place with what it used to be--and what it is, is a pale shadow.

I agree it is not only the price vs. inflation price increase but the lack of quality food, service and show, for what you pay. I know many local ticos who have stopped going as well. Better places mentioned elsewhere here, Balcon D' Europa, Esquinas de Buenos Aires, ect.

The first time I went to Fogo's I had a really good meal, and well worth the price. The second time I went, about 2 years ago, it had slid way downhill and wasn't wroth it, IMHO. If it's gotten worse over the last couple of years then it's definitely not worth going to. That being said, I found Donde Carlos to be very mediocre at best and also overpriced. The Balcon Europa was much better, and cheaper. I have yet to try the Argentinian Steakhouse though, which I will remedy on my next trip in June.
