wanted to have dinner there last Sunday evening and found they were
closed. Was there at about 6pm. I had dinner there in Oct. on a Sunday evening and it was mostly empty. Not sure if they operate on Sundays now or not.
The meal I did have was quite good. I thought the portions were large and well cooked.

The last I knew they are open on Sunday but close about 5 PM.

While I enjoyed visiting this establishment with my wingman last trip, I would respectfully say that the ribs are not nearly of the quality as Flannigans, Duffy's, or Scotty B's.

And for those of you not on Florida's Gold Coast, I would add the delicious ribs at Houstons to that list.

But maybe the gentlemen from Texas like JR's western motif?

I ate at JR's on Wednesday. I'd never been there before, and it took some finagling to ge the cab driver there, despite it being right next to the entrance to the Zoo.

I've had a lot of really good ribs in my life, and there are always 2 components to good ribs. The ribs themselves and the sauce.

JR's sauce is nothing special. In fact, i'd barely call it BBQ sauce, but it works. The meat, on the other hand, was very good. Almost falling off the bone and very meaty with big portions. The coleslaw was good, but the beans were weird.

The thing is, about the only other choice for ribs is Tony Romas, and frankly, their meat sucks and their sauce isn't much better. The ribs are usually anemic with very little meat and the sauce is almost non-existent.

JR's is, so far, the best in my experience, but no.. it doesn't compare to good places back home. That's typical for just about everything in Costa Rica.
