That was my bad... I went off on a little tangent there into real estate. Sorry.

Admin 1,
Good job on hopefully getting a VIP discount there. I will be back there either way.

It's called "La Esquina de Buenos Aires", located "detras de la iglesia de la Soledad". Located next to a church, no street signs obviously, but the place was very good. In the vicinty of Bar Idem.

This one has my vote as well.

Was there about a month ago, final bill was about USD 120 for 5 person, very reasonable: mexican " Bohemia " beer, entree, main dishes, desserts, fruit juices, didn't order vino though. Wine list is OK .

Very good meat, especially the medallion ( sp ? ) LF ordered grilled whole fish, bass , I believe. Everything was good.

The place is small but very cozy, interior with old photo's everywhere. There's even a old pic of Maradonna .
Romantic enough to bring LF's in to enjoy a meal.

I have never been to the Whitehouse, but this place seemed good enough for me. I know, it ain't Ruth Chris ... I will revisit anyway.

Oh, yeah, I went this with weekend with my chica and a CRT buddy.

It was very good once again. The tenderloin (Lomito) is what I had again, since the first time I had it was excellent. I ordered medium-well, but next time I'll get medium, I like it a little redder. The only problem was that I ordered the one in the pepper-corn sauce, and it was spicy, one of the strongest dishes I have ever eaten. But I almost ate it all anyway. I would not recommend this dish unless you like it spicy. I would get the tenderloin in mushroom sauce or white win sauce, much tamer.

3 people, check was c27,500 ($56), we each had appetizers, dinner, and a drink. The portions are pretty large so no room for dessert.

This place still stands as a top 3 dinner location for me in San Jose.

The peppercorn filet mignon at La Esquina is excellent. (with apologies to the naysayers on this board). It will fall short of your expectations, if Ruth's Chris or Mortons is your standard. However, it will not fall very short and your bill will be about half of the price of the best American steakhouses. If you can live with that, give La Esquina a try--you won't be sorry.

To update, I ate at La Esquina de Buenos Aires on January 21, 2006, with a fellow CRTer. The CRT card got the tax knocked off the bill. Two above average glasses of wine and two excellent steaks set us back $40, including tip. Not bad!

This is my favorite restauarant in San Jose. I try to hit it at least once each trip. Took my girl there on Tuesday night. This steak was way better than usually, I'm not sure why. And I really like the steak there, but I loved this one. But I was really, really hungry, maybe that's why.

A porcini lomito (steak), grilled salmon, and 2 glasses of wine were $40 w/ 10% CRT discount.

Note: We had to wait about 5 minutes because we didn't have reservations and the place was full. I have never seen that many people there before. But it was about 9pm, we usually dine 10 or after. Good idea to make a reservation.

Their steaks are fantastic. I recommend the "vacio", delicious flank steak. Their specialty...
