I like to make a couple of ham/turkey, cheese, and tomatoe sandwiches with chips (to put in the sandwich) and take them with me. Please note this may seem simple but it is a very complicated process.

1) Condiminents - I prefer mayo but mayo will make the bread mushy if you put it on when making the sandwich at the hotel, so I take some packets with me (same for mustard lovers) and apply prior to eating.
2) The tomatoes - must be wrapped seperately, don't forget to pre-slice, and apply to sandwich on top of mayo/mustard.
3) The Chips (the Mack-Daddy topping) - must go on last and not on top of the tomatoe & mayo/mustard side. The Chips, in order to maintain full crunchiness, need to be on the opposite side (between top slice of bread and cheese).

Do not, in any manner, cut this sandwich in half, otherwise small pieces of chips will get everywhere. And, just to be heart smart, no need to add any salt. There is plenty to be had in the greasy chips and fatty ham.

Now, how can I possibly accomplish this by just staying at La Amistad. Well, I go to Mas X Menos and get the supplies. Typically, you can find a bottle of Tanquerey gin, sandwich supplies and a bag of Hershey Bliss chocolates in my fridge. I never worried what was open 3 AM when drinking at the DR, because Cafe Dean is 24/7 (and open to CRT members, VIP card required).

Well, Brother Jazz, let's just say I have dabbled a bit in the processed meat, pasteurized cheese and multi-grain areas in life. I have a very healthy outlook on the unhealthy aspects of life.

That was one good thing about the airport before the expansion took place about seven years ago...the buffet they had on the second floor. It was cafeteria style, the food was very good, and it was very reasonably priced. It overlooked the runway. On the other side was the bar...nice little bar, but small. Anyone remember those days?

Food never had a problem with ever, beverages are not allowed. Another thing I bring are protein bars. Of course the flight to Miami is pretty short compared to other destinations.

Gringotim, I remember that spot. I miss it. They weren't so strict about you getting in there without a ticket either. Years ago, I used to do a lot of airport pickups. And many times flights were delayed for hours. Always carried a book with me and waited in that restaurant/ lounge...

I miss that place. I use to always have a morning flight back home and always had huevos ranchero there. They were some of the best anywhere and in those days the prices were very reasonable.

Those were the days when you bought your departure tax stamp, and it was a stamp, from vendors on the airport sidewalk.

i have kind of made it a tradition for me, get to airport get drunk pay 5 dollars per beer, than go get a 9 dollar whopper. its expensive but a good send off from SJO. (and they are actually some of the best whoppers i have ever had, or maybe im just really drunk.)

you can also get a small shots of whiskey from a girls who is giving away free small shots, its all the way down by the last shops on the top floor. its not much but its something...
