News Cafe and El Patio are both horrible eateries. They are places people spend time at to watch the crowd go by.

If you want to eat well in San José, you need to veer to the outer districts or the suburbs.

For me, they ruined News Cafe with the last "remodel". They made teh wall to the street thicker which made the space between the building wall and the patio wall too narrow to sit in comfortably anymore.

El Patio is now much more comfortable and I like their breakfast.

celloswiss - Welcome to the board. Sorry to see your first post is a bit of a rant. You are correct, the main draw to both of these places is the view but I have not had a bad breakfast from either.

The NC isn't what it used to be but IMO El Patio has the best pizza in the gulch.

Anybody aver been there for pancake day. Funniest (and somewhat disgusting) thing I ever seen. The had one bottle of syrup and by the time it got around to my table it was basically empty. They apparently didn't have any others. I ended up buttering up one pancake and rolling up some melon in it. Turned out pretty good.
