Well....maybe.
I wanted to go offshore and kill some fish today, but it's blowing 25 knots out of the North! So, now I'm stuck home for the holidays! Bah-Humbug!

Besides that.....(unlike someone I know) my little Colombiana isn't coming to visit me this week, so I'm cranky AND envious!

Have fun, bro' !!!

I have to agree that seeing gringo resturants is not why I go to SJ.

That being said, I actualy ended up going to Mickey-D's and KFC a couple of times and was allways impressed with the freindly service. Things like asking for salt, or the bathroom, or just sitting for awhile and looking at the eye candy. Some of the hard core local places seem put out about that kind of stuff. Yet the local bakery places the girls { older women } do try to keep an eye on you. And when shopping at the big supermarkets the old gal's are on you like at the DR. Trying to be helpfull that is.

As far as hooters is concerned I don't like their food here.

Seeing any American type restaurant in a foreign country really
"makes me want to throw-up !!!!!!!!"
And I flatly refuse to eat at any of them..
I can't state my distain large enough in type !!!!!

I do not go to a foreign contry to see anything American, if you do might as well stay at home.

This is one big reason I go off the beaten track. As you get the full flavor of the country you are in.

Really Nucknfuts

I understand I.D.'s point completely. I'm sure that for expats, these chains represent "comfort food." Don't underrate its importance.

That being said, I wish that it was possible to travel without constantly encountering the familiar. Yet, I still smoke Marlboro and order CocaCola at the bar. So there ya go.

Vis-a-vis Hooters:
I think Hooters is overpriced and low quality in the States. I generally hate "factory food" anyway, which is why I avoid the American chains here at home whenever I can. And I don't visit them while in Costa Rica.

Recently, my lunch companion to a Minneapolis Hooters franchise was not amused when I pulled a Stevie Wonder head shake and asked if the restaurant was based on an Owl theme.

I imagine the name fools an occasional eco-tourist.

Agreed with the majority it seems:
I do not need a Hooters in Costa Rica and I won't support it.

All the chains there are pricey, too. Taco Bell costs more in San Jose than it does in the U.S., AND it does not taste as good, and you have to beg them for salsa.

Pizza Hut sucks everywhere, as do Mac's and most of the other fast food places.

Who needs 'em?

One time I took a favorita and her three offspring to a Pizza Hut in Cartago. I figured I'd end up paying $20 or so. The bill came to almost $50!

Squirrel88 and I made it by there. Color us curious.

Why? I don't know, we probably just wanted to compare it to our favorite place near Houston.

Plusses...........actually our waitress was beyond hot, looked more anglo than Tica and her service was actually good. We did go there around 3pm one day, so there was not a crowd there. The place was new and clean, and all the waitresses were hot.

Minuses..........the food was not as good, probably overcooked just a bit. I could not stand the peach flavored tea, changed it to a coke. Both of us had 20 wings each.

JOHN...Is the one near Houston in Stafford,TX? I ate at one there beside a Harley Davidson store during Superbowl week in 2004. Nice joint.
