You guys got a serious sandwich jones going on! :D You might have to get out of the gulch for a trip to Escazu. I can't remember the name (maybe some of the Escazu guys can help) but there is a two story place there that is an Italian deli on the first floor and a restaurant upstairs. Don't eat the stuff anymore so haven't been there in some time but the quality, prices and everything was good there and I had some of the best sandwiches I've ever had.

Good call, and I'd love to try the place next trip -it sounds great. :)

The problem (my problem, maybe) with food in Costa Rica is while there are good places to eat, they are few and far between <emphisis on few> - not the case with most places in the USA - while I love CR, its not a place with a history of good food - either native, or ethnic (tell me the Chinese food is not the worlds worst - unless your taste runs to "ham chop suey" <which is not even Chinese food; invented in California in the late 1800's>)

Scuba1, go with me on Sunday morning for dim sum. You might alter your opinion.

I'd be interested in your opinion of Casa China. For those who don't know, Casa China is operated by the Costa Rica Chinese Association.

"Where did Bruce take Scuba1" (there....fixed it for you :P  :) )

Wongs - have been there with Bruce twice - agree its good - also there are too many totally shitty Chinese places, so again, unless your taste runs to Ham Chop Suey, gotta stand by my previous comments :)

Scuba 1, here's the problems. I know we have been there twice. Now I also know sometimes?you are a man of good taste and would never request to go again unless it was good the first time. So I don't want to classify you as a hypocrite especially on this board :D :D and you are friend of mine.
The second problem, I thought maybe you just didn't remember due to a health issue between the ears
Anyway, you need to man up and confess and ask for forgiveness about good chino food in sjo. :P :P
I think you may be suffering from Cuban cigar deprevation

Boy oh boy, are you destroying the myth about jewish folks knowing where to find good Chinese food :P

Don't know how else to say it; I liked the dim sum at Wongs.

However, I do agree 100% with your last line - See you in late Jan; you need anything, PM me :)

The closets I would think is a grocery store by the name of AM/PM about a block east of the Del Rey.

I could never find good Chinese Food in SJO. The closest I came was Isla Verde near the Embassy but that was not that great. I think I will check in Escazu when I am in town for Super Bowl. I will let you all know if I found something good.

Zunbake.....

Have you tried Casa China, a restaurant owned and operated by the Association of Chinese of San Jose (I think that's the group). It's a big place that is often crowded with chinos. Maybe they like authentic chinese food. Maybe they just like to eat with other chinos

Check it out if you haven't been there..

I'll look up the location. It's on the way to the San Pedro Mall, just off of Ave. 2.

A chica took me there for dinner. I was paying so much attention to the chica that I lost track of the route we traveled. In fact, I was so dazzled by the chica that I didn't even know the name of the place for a couple of months.

I DO remember that it was not too pricey, the menu was extensive and the food (IMHO) was good ......but the chica was a lot better.

Casa China is in Route 204 (would be Calle 25) and Ave 10.

Put CASA CHINA SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA into google maps.

You'll see it marked as a "Bubble A." Print the map. There are some one-way streets in the neighborhood and the taxi drivers get screwed up more than usual trying to find the place.
