I love staying at La Amistad, but their breakfast sucks cojones.

gotta disagree with ya bigtime on that statement. La Amistad is the only gulch hotel that serves their hotel guests eggs & pancakes or french toast included at no extra charge. Every other hotel you get nothing or at most a continental breakfast. Go to the SL & pay $10usd a day for their country breakfast.

Last summer, The Hemingway Inn was making a fine breakfast to order, with all of the trimmings. It was included in the room rate.

The Hemingway Inn is not a great hotel----but it's good as a default if your in a jam. And it's pretty inexpensive and pretty available.

There's another. Sleep Inn provides a fantastic breakfast buffet for free. So you can deduct that from their high $30 Chica fee. And deduct also your airport transport, both ways. If they aren't there to pick you up, call them and they'll pay the cabbie.

IMO, best breakfast deal in the gulch is the american breakfast at HLH. 2 eggs, mound of bacon (5-7 slices), toast and hash browns for 2,500 colones. French toast is 1,500 colones.
