I think you mean 'MSG'.

Casa China is always good.

Really depends on the place. You can try asking without it...the better places either don't use it or can take it out. If the waiter gives you a blank face, he has no clue...and well that may not be chicken what's on your plate.

The cheap Chinese places here definitely cook down to the local standard which is not good (your typical neighborhood chino), but the good places are just fine.

Another pretty good place is in front of the Corobici, on the second floor of the mas X Menos that use to be Yaohan. Haven't been in a while but it was a good value/quality play a few years ago.

I do recall getting "Chinese" with mashed potatoes and black beans. Not the fermented ones, the Tico ones.

The best Chinese Restaurant in my opinion is Isla Verde in Pavas 2 blocks west of the US Embassy.

Well you all did a great job of answering my "where to get good Chinese food in San Jose". Thanks so much. I just wrapped up a week long visit in CR and wish I had seen this thread sooner. Oh well, I'll be back in 3 weeks. Hot chica's and good Chinese food. I may never leave!

I am an expert on Chinese food in San Jose. I would highly recommend places in Cupertino, Palo Alto, Mt View, and if you want to drive a little, San Francisco.

Best Chinese food in the world !

Location: Pérez Zeledón home of possibly thee most beautiful women in TicoLandia.
IMHO: thee best Costa Rican pink snapper is found in Pérez Zeledon. It is not as readily available as in the valley and is strictly tica, but the quality is unsurpassed. 8)

Other than that, I know both Wong's and Lotus are pretty decent restaurants.

Thanks for the dim sum tip, Dragon.

Isla Verde (not too far) is better.

Kim Kom in Plaza Viquez (Ave 12, Calle 9) has some of the best Chinese and corvina fish that I have ever tried. It's across the street from Banco de Costa Rica.
