I second Mirador La Tranca for inexpensive fare, particularly meat & poultry. Nuetra Tierra is a great downtown restaurante for upscale comida tipica including using the bolsa to make coffee. It's across from the Museo Nacional too. La Criolita is a great restaurant just off the path from DR to SL. Warning: there is another La Criolita a couple of blocks south. They have a good breakfast for a decent price. It's a cross between a soda & restaurant.
