My buddy from Coronado's Tica wife eats there whenever she has business to do in San Jose. Her family is in the resteraunt biz so she's picky.

I like this restaurant a lot. I've eaten there several times, and I like their seafood. I plan on making it a must visit several times each trip.

As a Newbie traveled around the city an ate at a few different places. I have to say Soda Peru for the money was the best. I took a couple of ticas with me an they also enjoyed the food. It is a very basic eating place. Its located across from Hotel Little Havana (HLH) Look for yellow fronted building. Pan fried Sea Bass is fantastic.

Wanted to remind the Newbies to dine at the soda Peru for lunch. It is across an a little up the street from HLH. Take a date with you. Treat the Ticas well an it will be returned. Why do I like this place. It is operated by a very nice woman just trying to make a living and they are very friendly. The kind of people that appreciates your business.

I love Soda Peru. I love their seafood especially their ceviche. Very good and reasonably priced.

Agree - I think its one of the best options in a place that lets face it, does not have an abundance of good, cheap, dining places :)

Good thread; thanks for the heads-up on this Gringotim.

One of the most pleasant surprises I found, when I headed out into the wilds of CR, was the many great sodas in some of the most unexpected places. Really great meals at unbelievable prices. If Anthony Bourdain ("No Reservations" on the Travel Channel, for the uninformed) didn't already have the job, I'd apply for it. If guys don't take any other advice from the vets on here (I'm not a vet), they should really listen when someone tells them to "get out of the gulch".

Noticed a sign on the door of Soda Peru saying that they would be closed until May 4th; they must be on holiday.

I saw that too when I was down there recently, but I first saw it on April 9th or 10th, so that is on long holiday.

Yes. If you want something sweet, they have the best Churros. Freshly made and filled with caramel. ¢300, but they try to charge gringos ¢500.

Ok, Soda Peru keeps popping up for years. It is first on my list to finally try next time in the city. Too many guys recommend it that recommend other restaurants I like.
