Stopped in to look a few times. Nice enough place with a "special" location

Just hope they make it. Personally, I do not see them being around long enough to see next years NFL season....Good Luck

Stopped by Chubbs yesterday to catch some college football games. Typical "college" bar feel to it. Greg was very accommodating in getting the games you want to watch in the screen in front of you. But I have to agree with the OP about the food. I ordered the Chubbs burger and it was the worse I have ever tasted. Could not stomach more than one bite. Need better food if they want to stay in they restaurant business. But as an American sports bar it's the best in SJ.

Stick to the beer and popcorn.

I was there too yesterday and also ordered the burger. It did taste a little odd. Best I could describe it was it seemed like it was over peppered. I was able to stomach it. That is saying something as my stomach is a bit sensitive. Would not order it again. In general CR beef doesn't sit with me well. So far SL and La Esquina de Buenos Aires have had beef that I thought was good.

Service and atmosphere were good. Pricing was about the same as SL, maybe a bit more.

I've had some food there (which was good), but never the burger. Have any of you mentioned anything to the people working about the crappy food? Why would you not complain?

ya gotta try the chubb balls, they are to die for

So Chubbs is a dog from the picture of the bar that I have seen . I'll have to pass on the canine jewels. It's just the thought that bothers me, I would rather die  They might want to re-think the name of that food product.

Of course I might just buy a plate and pass it around for laughs  and see who bites ! You know who you are 8)

I worked on a cattle ranch in Montana for many years so I have probably eaten more balls than most of the ho's in Costa Rica

Where is this place btw? Can't find it on the map.

Too new to be on the map.

Straight up the street that runs between DR & KL towards the park or the Sleep Inn.

It's not the worst but there are two definitely better options (though not compatible location wise to the Gulch).

1) Doc Brown's in Sabana - in the AM PM plaza 100m west of Oficentro. Sportsbook employees swear by it as the #1 by far place for burgers.

2) Time Out tavern in Escazu - 300m south of the country club (identifiable by a painted sign on the wall saying "This is the place". Extremely gringo friendly sports bar.

Don't think there are working girls at either.

So this is where Shannon's was. Now I know where you are talking about.

I have no idea if it is true or not,but someone told me that the new chef (cook) at Chubbs was at the Time Out Tavern previously. The food has certainly been good there for quite some time so maybe there is hope.

Jeez! First we have to teach strip club operators how to act; now this? We should get paid as biz consultants.
