I was also at the b-day dinner and the whole thing was outstanding. I wouldn't write the place off because of the shady wine pushing though.

If you don't want any wine it may be best to just say something before hand. I do get the feeling their mouths salivate when they see a large group of gringos coming in though...

Having had the good fortune of being the birthday boy, my friends were left holding the bill. Tony had me taste the red wine, and I thought it was fantastic and gave the thumbs up. My friends had the good taste not to involve me in the subsequent skirmish. However, just as a good waiter will give the prices of the specials, it seems incumbent on the maitre d to disclose the wine prices as well. JMO.
The dinner was delicious, BTW.
