There's a reason why this is in the restaurant review section.

Overnight, I came back from my last trip and I have been in total misery for the past 24 hours. It's the first time I've gotten sick in 17 trips. It started halfway thru my flight. All of a sudden, I got very nauseous and made a beeline for the bathroom. It was occupied. I guess I knocked on the door and was about to run to the back of the plane to use the bathrooms when the flight attendant came out. It was not pretty, I was firing out of both ends. Image Image The rest of the flight sucked ass but the good thing is that there were only 3 other people in biz so the bathroom was always free.

I don't know if this was the cause, but I'll put it out there in case anybody else got sick. There have been reports in the past about them, but this was first time I got sick after eating there.

My girl and I ate at JR Ribs yesterday afternoon. We've eaten there at least 5-6 times without any problems. I always order the same thing: ribs, coleslaw, and potato skins. I haven't talked with my girl yet to see if she's also feeling bad.

Besides that, I had a Papa John's pizza at the airport which I often have. And a chicken and rice dinner with salad on the flight. The meals on Taca are usually very good, so I don't thing it's that, but who knows. But I think I was the only one who had the chicken.

last time I got hit, I lived in the bathroom for 3 days.

My last trip 4 years ago I got hit mid trip with an awful bug that beat the shit out of me for 3 days. As Orange described, it was awful, coming out both ends for 3 whole days, chills, sweats, etc. Not sure if it was ice from a drink, the chicken parm at Del Sol (or something like that) or our own private barbeque at Vegas Bob's and the salad, whatever triggered it...it was awful.

Finally a tica who I had gotten friendly with brought me to a doctors office in the Gulch where I explained my symptons to him and he gave me a prescription for some pills. Had me feeling better in 4 hours, although not completely recovered.

I came home, went to my own doctor and gave a stool sample, Dr. said I have some type of bug still in my system but I can't for the life of me remember what they called it. Campo(something). Anyway, that's my story and I'm hoping it don't happen again next month.

BTW, is it a bad idea to drink mixed drinks with ice in them, or stick to only bottled products?

SK

There is also a stomach virus that goes around done here. I have had it this week and had it last year at about this time. It is brutal and has hit me for almost five days now.

A friend of mine had the same symptoms. We were both baffled as to how he got so sick and I felt great. We had eaten at the same places, well, if you don’t count his tica spinner the first night.

Tuesday, Jan 15 – We both ate at Esquina de Buenos Aires.
Wednesday, Jan 16 – Breakfast at the News Café. Both had omelets. Arrived in Jaco and he reported not feeling great. He went to bed early
Thursday Jan 17 – He got sick on the fishing boat – firing at both ends same as Orange.

He was trashed for the remainder of the trip and only began feeling better around Tuesday, Jan 22.

His symptoms sounded similar to Oranges, except for sudden onslaught. He felt his illness coming on a little more gradually. The duration of his sickness lasted a similar time frame as Bktuna.

So, my diagnosis is that my friend had the stomach virus that Bk describes.

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor but I did stay at the Hotel Presidente.

I also ate at La Esquina de Buenos Aires. I ate lunch there on Sunday (20th). I got sick Wednesday night (23rd) on my flight home. Any connection?

For the first time in about 8-10 meals, the steak at BA sucked. It was rough and rubbery.

Was talking to a few people in town this trip about La Esquinas, all in unison repeated "HAS GONE DOWNHILL FAST". All recommended Fogo Brazil by leaps and bounds. I have one about 30 minutes away from home and have yet to try Costa Rican's version. I stick to the Pescado and Pollo in country for the most part, if I want beef its hard to beat Chicago....

Hope your recovering buddy.....Image...Image

I think this DIACORT stuff in a bottle has a small amount of antibiotic.

in its liquid form, it seems to act faster than the tablets.

you can buy it over the counter in CR, but not here in the states.

then there is always the lime sucking trick with each meal.

We really do not need these kinds of ugly remarks here. Can't you (Puravida29) find another place to spread your hate & discontent. I have read Oranges posts for several years & he treats all people from what I have ever read with respect unlike your BS on CRT.

Orange hope you are over this now. Give it a few more days & I bet you are back to normal  !

my last trip in dec. found me a victim of montezumas revenge or whatever the hell it was. but i had never been this sick in all my years of travel. both ends for a solid eight hours.
ate at that little cafe on the corner between SL and La amistad, had seafood pasta and it tasted incredible. unfortunately it also poisoned me apparently. think i will also be sticking to pollo even though this provides no guarantees either. was glad i had someone to take care of me although it was pretty embarrassing.
found myself thinking about my dog eating grass and involuntarily wretching while basically laying by the toilet. not a pretty memory.
ate the chicken enchilada at SL for the next three days and was nursed back to health. now that WAS a nice memory.

I learned about BACTRIM a few years ago after always getting the runs in Mexico. It can be purchased over the counter in CR,Mexcio,Thailand.

For about $13 you can get a weeks supply and the generic for about $4. You can get it at the Pharmacia across from the Presidente. One tablet a day and it kills the bacteria. I use it every trip with good results. Get started on it early, do not wait until it's to late. It is at the top of my to do list when I hit country.

He's a troll. No need to be concerned about that person.

Hell, if he paid his VIP dues, he’d then be able to read that hilarious 4 page thread in the VIP Forum & Trip Reports Section that nails him.

Anybody who has fired out of both ends knows how painful the experience can be. Not a laughing matter and definitely not a matter to pile onto someone like puravida did thats evil. I hereby curse puravida to 7 days of firing out of both ends with a nasty stomache virus. Nobody deserves that Pura not even Orange.
