Next time you are in that area continue past Ram Luna about 5K. On the right side when you start going down the mountain is Donde Alcides (AKA Pork Chop hill). Stop in have some great pork chops and go away full and with a smile when you get the bill.

Nice! Thanks for the tip.

Just was at Donde Alcides last week. We had the pork chops and they were excellent. This was a reccomendation from Don Gordo, and as usual he was right on with this place. They have three sizes of pork chops, I had the small and had plenty. I also had grilled pineapple and some grilled plantains with cheese over them that were unbelieveable. The price is right and a great view.

My amiga and her sisters took me to Ram Luna the day after I arrived last month. The view of the meseta from the restaurant is absolutely breathtaking. Christmas decorations were already up, and the place vibrated with a festive spirit.

The food was pretty good, and reasonably priced. I ordered a lamb steak, which was slightly overcooked, but everyone else ordered different variations of lomito and seemed delighted with their choices. Dinner for 4 came to 42,000 Colones.

This place is perfect for sharing a romantic evening with a novia or special amiga. I plan on a return visit, but will opt for lomito or "Tierra Tica" night. I will also listen to the directions of my amiga next time when driving from Alajuela...the drive through Desamparados was maddening!

Here is a link to a review of the restaurant:
