Part of the charm in traveling I find to be the local cuisine at hole-in-the-wall places. In CR I'm partial to casados. Can you gentelmen tell me which of the sodas and bakeries you found most appealing?

there is a nice little soda next to zona blue..maybe a few door's down................

The problems with sodas is that most of them dont have names. At least the realyl cheap tico ones. There is a pretty decent one on the same side of the street where Nuestra Tierra is lcoated. If you are facing Nuestra Tierra, go about 300 meters to your left. You will then hit the Mariachi restaurant where you go get a band if you ever need one and then you will see a a flower shop. Keep going a bit further and you will see an small soda. It looks like it used to be an alley and someone just threw a roof on it. The food is cheap aroun860 colones for a casado plus they got this hot young tica that works there.

There is also another one in Los Yoses that I like to go to. It is close to where I live. From La Escuela, 50 meters north right across the street at the intersection. No idea what it's called but its even cheaper there and they have breakfast for 650 colones and it includes a fresco and coffee. It's run by a bunch of girls and they even deliver. The delivery girl is a a cute girl who is barely 18 with pig tails that delivers food on a bicycle. Hope this helps.

Ah yes,Chelles is one of my favorite spots in San Jose.It is an interesting spot late at night.Good place to catch a cab in the gulch at night as well.RBC100

I tried a bunch during my 2 weeks in November but to be honest cant remember much, it's all a blur now. Time flies. Just like the chicas, in the sodas your milage may vary.

The Sodas are great in San jose as with just about any town in the country.Anouther favorite stop of mine is the little pandaderia's located all about San Jose and most outher towns of any size at all.The baked goods are delicoious.Thats my breakfast if it isn't included where I stay.rbc100.

I would say that one of the few downsides of staying in Amon instead of the gulch is that I haven't found a bakery. From what I've seen, baking in Latin America is nowhere near the art form one finds in Europe, but they do make some good stuff. Many of the restaurants in Amon have cakes and the like, but the Prez is in the middle of several decent bakeries.

There's a pretty popular soda downtown that Sluthog took me to (and later, some other friends) with a bunch of soccer team pictures covering the main wall. Anybody know where I'm talking about? It's probably a five minute walk from the Presidente.

Do not know the name but the description fits the soda on the SW corner of Calle 5 & Avenida 1. From the Presidente turn left go 1 block (the street before Mc Donald's) turn right go one block and it is on your left.

Is the soda at Av 1 and Calle 5 called Soda Central? I used to eat there years ago, and it was OK, but I was around there a lot more when BBC was open.
