Real Men Waiters
Are you saying previously they had trannies working there...

I eat there at least two times per trip... Still some of the best sit down American Breakfast served anywhere in the Gulch.. their Steak & Eggs breakfast served with home fries, toast juice and coffee still is a tad under $5.00 US and really is good... thier American Style breakfast same price same included items subsitutes Bacon, ham or sausage in lieu of the steak...

And for the record last time I was there I got smacked upside the head by my Novia of the day, for staring at the hottest looking Tica to serve me in San Jose yet.... Dam I hope she wasn't a tranny

Breakfast at the Colonial is good and very reasonably priced. Restaurant is upscale with table clothes, good china and glassware but cafeteria prices.

Dinner and lunch are also very good and reasonable if you order from the resident menu. When you are seated they will bring you the gringo menu (leather cover) tell him you want the "other" menu. They might act like they have no idea what you are talking about  or tell you the other menu has very limited selection :P . Just insist on the "other" menu and they will get it for you. The prices are about 1/2 the cost of the gringo menu.

YO and Ditto to that Steve:
Seahawk is probably not hard to please since he is savy to living in CR. My long time aquaintance is probably still staying in that "unsavory place" he resides in and the Colonial is certainly upscale for that lone wolf. Sorry mi amigo, sort of funing with ya.....you know what a low life I am.

I have not had a decent esperience in that damn place in the last two years. I use to eat there quite often and up until 2003 it was my favorite late night ( and breakfast) place to eat. Last trip I refused to eat there except for a late bowl of soup and damn it ..... they screwed that up. Yes, the decor is very pleasant but the service has declined.

Being rather cheap, I normally would satisfy my "dinner" by doing a little gambling and eat the light buffet on Friday and Sat night which again is not what it use to be. OR, stand behing VB at the BJ table and root for platters of tasties they brought around the casino.

DON'T even try to tell me they have a decent steak. You are loco. Phuck NO.

Tman can attest to our debacles at the place.

What's worse is the somewhat dark complection bar waitress that I had had the hots for never would go out with me..........what else is new.

Seahawk...I had breakfast there this AM also for the first time in a long time. Sorry I didnt see you.

Yes, I can attest to Circus' previous travails at the Colonial restaurant. Over the past years I saw the service and attitude go down there. BUT...and maybe it was just today and the new waiter...BUT, I truly enjoyed my steak and eggs breakfast for around $4. The steak is NOT Argentinian beef...but, it was tasty and not tough. The fried eggs were done just right, and I like the quality marmelade they serve with the toast. It is a nice quiet place to breakfast and read the morning paper...which I only seem to be able to do on SUndays 8) ...and I DO appreciate the linens and atmosphere there.

I do think a new waiter makes a world of difference sometimes...and who knows, maybe they have a new manager or chef as well. SErvice levels are never constant in CR as has been well documented on this board at numerous places and instances.

I agree with Seahawk on this place. I have also eaten dinner there on several occasions and found it to be really good even if the service has been pretty slow. I recommend the Sea Bass with the mariscos sauce. As far as what Irish Dweller commented about the "other menu" he is absolutely correct, however you won't get any weird looks if you ask for the "bar menu". That is what it is called.

For me the best place to eat breakfast, with very decent price of a little over $3.00, in San Jose is the Colonial Casino restaurant. I guess I've eaten there so often that the waiter recognized me so I rarely had a slow service. Plus I tipped the waiter extra for good service and they remembered that.

Gracias Don Roberto, I never knew the correct name for the other menu. No wonder that looked at me quizzically  . Who is this Irish Dweller individual  ?

i was there for breakfast 3 times in mid febuary, it looks
like they finally fired the guy with the crewcut ( he was slow and indifferent)

the new waiter is pretty cheerful and attentive, i tipped every time.
how could that casino keep the other waiter on so long i don't know.

We ate there several times in Jan and the steaks were great. This came from farmers that raise their own. Our waiter at night was the same old guy we have had there for several years. There was a very beautiful waitress with dark hair as well. We had no complaints as to the service.
