This was as close as I could get to a food section so here goes..
Around SJ and other parts of Costa Rica you will see vendors selling what looks like Coconuts and using sharp blades to slice them with ease..Actually I hope none of you have slept with the guys wife recently when I make my purchases.
I was informed they are not really coconuts because these are different colors when ripe and that they yield a medicinal beverage which some even say wards off cancer etc.
The cost was about 25 cents so I had one. Not sure if it had any immediate benefit but I had a raving erection the first night day I drank one and to this date still no cancer today. :)
There are many residents and resident experts on CR that post on the board so I thought I would throw out the questions of what is the item in mention and does anybody know of its health awards? Actually for 25 cents it was a nice change from carbonation and made me feel quite tropical.. :)

Hey justtoonice, There are some coconuts that are used more for the water they contain. When I go to India or Latin American countries such as Costa Rica they sell it on the roadside. I don't know about the curing or preventing cancer thing, but the liquid found in these coconuts are very nutritious and have some medicinal qualities. I know for a fact that they boost your immune system as I had caught a stomach virus in India and couldn't keep anything down. The Doctor suggested I drink lots of coconut water and within hours I was eating again and feeling a lot better. So I am glad for your sake you at least got a "good rise" out of the drink. It is a refreshing drink and a good change from cola. I put up a link if you guys want to learn more info.

The cocos here are definitely a more nutritious drink than soft drinks made in the states or elsewhere. After reading many articles over the years, I am convinced...even with a sixth sense...that bottled soft drinks containing mostly substitute flavorings and sweetners are a significant cause of the cancer epidemic in the US and elsewhere. Maybe we should find a way to produce and market these cocos back in the US as a tasty, refreshing cancer killer? Or at least...some form of aphrodisiac? Preferably drunk by the gallon each day by those frigid gringas back home?:)

I LOVE "Cocos Frios" (cold coconuts) and drink/eat 2-3 of them every day in CR and Rio. Give the vendor back your empty coconut after drinking the cocomilk and he'll cut it open for you. You scoop the coconut meat out with the scoop he gives you.

Very healthy too.

I have witnessed Circus hanging around those coconut stands with an evil grin  on his face and a look of satisfaction.

I would be real careful what you drink.

Since coconut milk is also a diuretic, I really think Circus mixes the coconut milk with the vodka he consumed previously in his portable stomach and then fills the little bottles with his new martini invention from his portable spout for subsequent cocktail hours...not sure, but it seems plausable knowing Circus.

YO senor Papi:
Please do not give away my little secrets. Coco liquid does have a unique substance flavor but not suitable for my taste in mixing with vodka. BUT, an old favorite is the pina colada (with rum) and not to forget the crushed pineapples.......Yummmmmmmmm.....in moderation of course.

I've been drinking vodka every day for 45 years and I have certainly never found it to be habit forming.

Don Papi!

yeah, guess that is where I heard that name the most along with "OhhhhhhPapi!!!"

Enjoyed stomping around rio with you, had a great time. Sorry, but I just had to dash away to Buzios for a couple of days...and yes I did spend unexpected amount of time with my favorite. But when I find something I enjoy, I enjoy it a lot!

I enjoyed seeing you guys in luomo and 4x4 as well as dinner at the italian place and terraco. You were loads of fun and seemed to always inbound or outbound with a lovely brunnette in our hotel lobby. Seems like you and the buddies were having a great time.

I hope that the rest of your trip was fun and I hope to see you there or costa rica again soon!

your buddy, ablissman aka Michael
