Try La Esquina de Buenos Aires just a few blocks south of the DR

La Esquina de Buenos Aires, Calle 11, corner 4. I have taken a date there, good wine list. Close cab ride and in the gulch.

Oh we posted the same time. Cafe Mundo near the sportsman's was wonderful for a date with a special chica but I think it closed.

Restaurante El Novillo Alegre is a chain around San Jose at various locations even one in Jaco. It is as good as any I have found and they are good size so reservations usually are not needed. The web site is

Nothing beats La Esquina de Buenos Aires IMHO. Great food, great service, incredible menu of food and wine, incredible ambiance. 15 years ago one could walk in and get a table - not so now. Ya need to make a reservation - even for lunch (via WhatsApp on their website). I’ve been going there for at least 15 years and it is still my “go to” restaurant for a great night out or even a nice lunch.

Grano de Oro. Upscale. Courtyard is a great place to eat in dry season. Great wine list.

Del Mar is good but if you are on budget expensive.
