I am bringing 3 newbies down next week 8)
and one of my wingman wanted to bring 2 bottles of nice wine and I told him to leave it at home since we all brought carry-on's and are buzzing through Customs.

So I would like to find a place (Duty Free at airport is fine) to buy some Premium Red South American Wines.

I don't have any experience with Argentinian or Chilean red wines - so if anyone has a fine wine they have had good experience with - please let me know. Especially if it was recent. Love you guys...

Thanks
Californiamann

Grab some Malbec at the duty free store, also, Esquina de Buenos Aires restaraunt has a very good wine list.
I'm sure there will be someone else who lives there that can give you a good heads up on where to shop.

Yes,
Ideally I would like to grab some fine bottles of red wine from the duty free shop. Here is some info I pulled up, but I do know how accurate it is. If anyone has a favorite red wine they grab from the Duty Free at the Airport - I want to hear from you!!
Cheers

Found this online - don't know which magazine.

If you navigate the Auto Mercado website below (there is one, I think, 3 blocks up from the Presidente), you can see what wines they carry. In fact, you can see every product they carry and prices too!

In general,it is the luck of the draw, every bottle can be different, good or bad.

IMHO avoid Concha Y Toro, they make about 22 vintages, it's over rated. I see your from Nor Cal, you should be lecturing us on wine.

Just wanted to follow up...

So in my past 3 trips since this posting, I find it helpful to stop off at the liquor store/duty free shop on the way out of airport.

We usually pick up 4 different wines to sample. So far we have hit home runs, I can't remember the names, but mostly Malbec blends from Chile. Yum. Usually in the $18-$30 range.

We also pick up a liter each of what we each like to drink, Flora de Cana for me, and finally this is a great time to get a bottle of Baileys to have a drink to offer the girls once in the room.

Most chicas will accept a rum and coke or a Baileys on ice.

Anyway, that's how we roll! Plus, if One Lucky Dog is picking you up ask the driver you bring a coke, ice and plastic cups and "Wahla" you can have a Fantastic cocktail on the way to The Gulch.
