Funniest thing I've (re)read all week. If somebody opened up a Popeye's in that neighborhood, you'd get in the newly-empty KFC mighty quick.
For those not hip to Popeye's: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Popeyes_Ch ... 6_Biscuits
Locations in CR: Mall San Pedro and the Escazu Theater Complex
On second thought, forget all this--it's probably too spicy for CR tastes.

For a listing w/reviews of popular SJO restaurants, why not consult this "civilian" source?
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurants- ... _Jose.html
And another local guide:
http://www.restaurantscostarica.com/ind ... -rica.html

There's no substitute for relayed personal experience, of course...

And if in the HLH area, there's a nice restaurant catercorner from it: Arte & Gusto << my personal knowledge
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEvufnCHO48 for a look inside and pix of offerings Full bar and very spacious
