FYI - A little traditional Mexican place (not Tex-Mex) named Tacos y Salsas and owned by a lady named Arlene. She is a reasonably well known chef in CR and once had her own TV cooking show here. It's about 50 yards on the right before Grand Tara (formerly the White House) and about 400 yards up the hill from Cementerio de San Antonio (opposite side of the road). The sign is obvious and hard to miss. It has a wonderful view of the city especially at night (when not raining or cloudy).
In my opinion, it's a great little restaurant with a bar and about 10 tables - nothing fancy but very nice and comfortable. Arlene speaks Spanish, English and German (maybe more). While the restaurant has traditional Mexican on the menu, Arlene can, with a few days notice, cook just about anything - German, Italian, Thai - you name it. Great lasagna, in my opinion.
The menu is moderately priced - $6-7 for appetizers, soups and salads - $12-15 for main course, wines are about $25-$30 per bottle.
I'd say more for those that live in the general area rather than those making the trek from downtown - can be a little expensive in a taxi (maybe $15 each way from Barrio Amon) plus there are quite a few equally good restaurants closer to downtown - but worth a try.
They are open Wednesdays to Fridays 5 PM to midnight, Saturdays - noon to midnight and Sundays - noon to 4 PM. One might want to call just to make sure hours haven't changed. Phone is: 2228 2238.
I have nothing to do with the restaurant - I just live within a short walking distance and eat there couple times a month. I thought others might enjoy it.
¡Buen provecho!
