".....It is turning into a Tica place more and more."

As in...more and more Ticas [chica working girls] are hanging out there, looking for business? :)

That would be good news. Possibly that is where the former Garden's girls are now hanging out.

That was funny although waiting 10 minutes to be served in CR may be considered by some to be good service.

They always had guiness when I was there. They usually have the draft version and the hi alcohol version also.

Watch for the other blonde barmaid, not giselle. She is an out and out thief and Jimmy seems to not care.

I can't report on the place until Jan, but I will stop in instead of walking by all the time & give my two cents worth on the place. After being in Bocas del Toro, I'm pretty patient.

That's for sure. There are very few Costa Rican restaurants in the US. There's a good one in Chicago supposedly, based on the reviews.

Here's a funny story. When my girl finally came here (NY) in May, I searched for a CR restaurant near here. I finally found one, but it was at the very end of Long Island, in Southampton I think. It's a good 1.5-2 hour drive each way, especially with the traffic on the LIE. My girl was so excited, like a K*D on Christmas. So we took the drive, and we pull up to the restaurant and there's a Colombian flag on it. Apparently, it was sold a couple months back and the info I got wasn't up to date. She literally cried, I felt so bad.

I'm a big fan of Shannon's. Though its been May since I was there last. It's location is a nice, downhill, 4 block walk (daytime only) from Hotel Castillo. They have a good happy hour (If I remember right, 2 bottles of local beer for 1000c) and a great and large Fish and Chips (3500c). Your bottle cap is your "chip" for second beer. The bill has always been "spot on". The doorman Joe really looks out for you and offers a cheap but small car service. Jimmie, the owner, rents a few cheap rooms upstair.

After an afternoon adventure to the MPs, I can get together with fellow gringos for a few brews and sometimes dinner. I actually like the fact it's mostly a guys bar with not many working girls coming in. It's a place to get away for a break . Then out the front door, turn left, walk 50 yards and you are right in the middle of "Heaven at Night".

I will check it out in two weeks and update then.

It is certainly not my idea of Irish but I never had any problem at Shannon’s. The food and service were okay. I usually eat the businessman’s special and they serve up a typical plate. Okay but not great.

this place seems to have gone downhill a bit in just a year. not just because they got rid of that unbelieveable dark Colombian bartender, but also because they don't serve pint of Guinness Draught anymore (now just bottles of foreign extra, which is stronger but shittier and more expensive).

I feel like the food is a bit overpriced for what you get as well in terms of the actual eats and the atmosphere. This is pub, why are you charging $15 for a plate of shrimp?

Hi all:

I'm returning to San Jose next week and was wondering if Shannon's is still going strong? I tried to call the number, but didn' get an answer.

They were open as of March 5th. Didn't seem real busy.

They are open. Have not been there for awhile but heard they lost the women who was their cook and the food quality has suffered.

Maybe they switched for Irish food to Celt

I'm in CR now and it's gone from one of my favorite places to eat fish and chips to crap. I ate there once three weeks ago and won't eat there again. I still go there for happy hour about 5 times a week. 2 bottles of Pilsner 1400 col. from 5 to 7. A good number of regulars still drink there. The owner Jimmy just got back Monday (for St. Patrick's day), maybe he will get it back on track.
