La Masia...Still the top restaraurant in SJO...in Sabana North. Authentic Spanish...GET THE PAELLA (call ahead) and the Gaspacho!!! Located in the Casa Espana building...food and service is A++++++++ and location is close in! Have nothing but terrible food @ La Monastere!

Yes , indeed a great restaurant :)
Enjoyed your choices in reverse order. Gaspacho first==---paella next!!!

Since it is right across the the street from Apartotel La Sabana, where I spent 70 days y nites :D this year, am quite familiar with the eatablishment :)

But it is rather slow, with very old male penguin waiters, very rarely with much action!

Alive only when some private wedding, or similar happening

Hey Memo, aka Pidd, what is your evaluation as a connosieur??>?
of this fancy place??

Pura Vida,

Cygnus

I can give high marks to both RamLuna, and La Manastere. The difference is price. La M was about $125 for two....while RamLuna was about half that. Both have awesome views of the city, although La M is probably a more romantic location. Both are up in the hills overlooking the city, about a 25 minute cab ride from El Presidente. My cab fare there and back was $45 bucks, but I also paid him for waiting for us.

One suggestion. Make sure your chica is really up for it. When I went to RamLuna I had the gorgeous Lourdes with me, and she was into it big time, and invited me out onto the patio to look at the city lights. But when I took Kayse to La M, she got tired and almost fell asleep. It was a waste of money since I do these things to make them happy, not just me. She would have been happier if I had given her cien. But she explained that her baby was keeping her up at night and she really was just overly tired.

I presume you have to have the cab waiting, otherwise you can't
call for one from there, or you'll have to wait another 45 minutes
for it to come? Just curious so I know in advance. Thanks!

Also -- How long did your cabbie wait? 2 hours? Thanks again.

Here's another good list of SJ restaurants. The great thing about this
list below is the restaurants all have the menu listed with prices
plus some have photos of the restaurant and dishes served!

Glad to see you have been there as well...as I saw it though, it is a kinda non-rush type of place, and away from the action. If I wanna be in the action, number 1 restaurant in CR has to be the BM. sitting @ the bar eating a T-bone with a nice bottle of Vino Tinto (make sure you get a bottle not a glass out of the box!). Last time there I had a chica cutting the meat and feeding me with one hand, and rubbing my lap with the other hand...quite a dinner...now that my friend is service & environment

Criolito's (sp) on Avenida 7 between Calle 7 and Calle 9 is a decent reasonably priced restaurant, that is good to know for people staying at Hotel Castillo, the Hemingway Inn or Don Carlos. It might make for a good pit stop after ZB or NF too.

Many people I talked to this trip ate often at Faro's, at Avenida 1 & Calle 7, but I didn't stop there this trip. Last year their Mexican stuff was awful, but several people recently praised their spaghetti with camarones (not on the menu). Two years ago they had a good promocion for ribeyes.

I agree, Veelee, the Criolito is a great place to go for lunch after stopping at either ZB or NF (when it was still around) and for some strange reason not often mentioned on this board. It is located 1 block north of Morazon Park on the same street as the ICE building (1 block west on opposite side). If you get there during the heart of lunch hour you will probably have to wait for a seat as it is a popular place with Ticos that work in the area. I suggest you go a little early or a little late (after 1PM) and try to get a seat in the back patio area next to the aviary.

Agree with Veelee and Prolijo that Criolito is good spot for lunch and the chicas enjoy sitting in the open area near the aviary. A word of caution however, make sure the chica is not freaked out by mice as they scurry around the floor of the aviary picking up bird seed.

My favorites are Lukas, Antonio's, and Ram Luna.

FYI...Jurgen's is located in the Hotel Jade in Barrio Dent, near the Mall de
San Pedro.

Anyone ever eat at Le Chandelier in San Pedro?
