There was a poll conducted on the Yahoo group
Costa Rica Living concerning tipping. This group is mainly made up of gringo residents or those who frequently visit (mostly non mongers) and are planning to establish residency.
The mechanics of creating a poll and actually voting are somewhat cumbersome so the sample is fairly small. I think, however, it is a fairly good representation of how the expatriate gringo community tips in restaurants.
