Guys,

For some of you vets, this may be re-hash, but for the newer guys, here's a list of fist-hand reviews of some of the places I just ate at over the turn of the new year (a week ago):

J.R. Ribs- This place is in the gulch, but off the beaten path. In my 2+ years of visiting CR, I had NEVER eaten at this place until this recent trip, and I kicked myself over and over again when I realized how delicious the food is here. Their baby-back ribs totally and completely KICK ASS!!! The corn on the cob is absolutely phenomenal...Guys, check the place out, it tries its absolute best to look authentic western on the inside of the restaurant, down to the servers wearing boots and big belt buckles. GREAT FOOD!!! I hate myself for never having gone there before...

Fuji- This is located inside hotel Corobisi... It's your standard hibachi asian food... kind of a toned-down Benihana's. The food was great, but what really knocked my socks off is the fried ice-cream... holy shit, that desert is something I yearn for and dream about... I think the urges are the same way crack-ho's yearn for the pipe!! IT'S THAT DAMN GOOD!!

Princesa Marina- This is a chain that can be found in several locations throughout San Jose. Their ceviche is, hands down, the best I've had in all of Costa Rica. What I really like about the place is the pricing... it's awfully reasonable, especially when you order lobster, it's down-right cheap compared to American standards. Their lobster in butter sauce is fanfuckingtastic. Great place, guys... check it out.

Dunn Inn-- Dude, this food here is pretty damn good. I had some delivered to me while playing at the Clarion Casino... Great shit!! They have a cheesecake there that they serve to you warm, and you will cream your pants, I shit you not, with how good this desert tastes!!

Soda Peru- Sucks, Sucks, Sucks. There was a time when this place had some dirt-cheap prices for decent food, but I guess they got the "gringo bug" and raised their prices across the board. This is strike one in my book. Then, the place was dead empty, but we still had to wait over 40 minutes for our food to be served... strike two. Then the food just plain sucked. The ceviche was gross, the beans in my plate were way too hard (undercooked), and the porkchops I got had more fat than meat on them. This place blows... much better sodas in CR.

Machu Pichu- I know this is a CRT fave, but I have to say that after enjoying Princesa Marina, both the quality and prices of this place are not great at all. I had some ceviche there that was so so lemony that it was almost unedible. I got sick off the seafood, so I'm sure you can see why this place is on my "least favorites" place... If you like seafood, try Princesa Marina, that's all I gotta say, folks.

Pizza Hut- The pizza here, IMHO, sucks a fatty. It has like this hint of scrambled egg flavor and tastes NOTHING like the Pizza hut of the states (which I like)

Dominos Pizza- Now, this pizza doesn't taste quite like the U.S. verson, but it's damn good pizza!! I ordered Dominos twice this last trip, and I'm not a big pizza fan, but this is good shit!! You can get both Pizza Hut and Dominos delivered pretty much to any hotel in the gulch... Don't know any numbers though... sorry (dial 113 for info). NEWBIES, if you are in CR eating Pizza Hut or Dominos, shame on you!!

Costa Del Sol- I've only eaten one thing here, which is the "Don Gordo Special", but fuckin'-A, that chicken parm is so damn good I go back atleast once every trip!! Great Chicken parm!!! Can't really speak for anything else on the menu.

Sportsmen's Lodge- You know, I really love eating here, in spite of my not staying there anymore (I stay at my friend's apartment now... for free. BEAT THAT PRICE, BILL, AND I'LL COME BACK!!). Ariel and the Colombian female cook are phenomenal and I can only say to ask them for the porkchop, rice and beans, fried plantain and avocado plate... you'll absolutely, positively LOVE IT!! Other all-time faves-- fettuccine alfredo, chipotle steak, and nachos (extra cheese and extra avocado!!).

Amon Plaza Clarion Hotel Restaurant- Sucks. They changed the menu a few months ago, and the food is lousy... Why'd they change the menu??!!?!? They had the absolute best club sandwich here way back when, now they got this foo-foo menu with fancy-schmancy entrees that are overpriced and badly prepared. Don't go.

Anyways, I hope this helps some out with where to definitely check out to eat while in paradise...

Good eatin', bitches!!

Oh, I see now what you are referring to. In your subject line it says Machu Pichu in small print.

After a year of visiting SJ, I am finally getting around to a few of the more popular places. I normally try to hit the small Tico place but before the Prime Rib Eyes hit the grill here at the casa Ciao/Hola b

Cafe Mundo-

Heard a variety of opinions on this place and with proximity to SL, a short walk to perhaps one of the better patios in SJ proper.

Ordered Bruschetta to start, instead of fresh tomato, basil and garlic on grilled bread, their version was more of a mini pizza. Four pieces to an order. Tasted as if they used their pizza sauce on toasted bread w/melted mozz.

My guest wanted to go light, so Czar salad/chicken and Onion Rings  I opted for Grilled Corvino, no sauce accompanied with juillenne of veggies and rice. Fish was fresh grilled Mr-Med 6-8 oz portion. Czar was fair, very heavy on dressing, grilled chicken breast moist no seasoning. Onion rings were served luke warm as if they sat in the window a bit but the nonetheless they were good. They serve a nice variety of breads baked on premise. Guest had a soft dink, with food, bill was $34.

Next up Bakkea, Costa del Sol....
