Papichullo,Drillem,Spock and I had dinner in the fantastic Italian restaurant last night. Everything was incredible especially the three mushroom rizzoto that I ordered for a main course. My grilled calimari apertiser was also very good.It isn't cheap, however I would rate it well above my former Italian favorite La Piazzetta. It is located in the Itzcazu Mall in Escazu directly off the Auto Pista opposite CIMA Hospital. It's about a 15-20 taxi ride (about 3000 colones) from the Gultch. I will certainly be back many times.

VB,
I agree 100% with your assessment of Tutti Li Restaurant. I went there with my Colombiana a few months ago. Outstanding Italian food, and real nice atmosphere. Not the cheapest restaurant, but great food. Here's the thread from a few months ago:

Was there last night with Easy and a visiting monger who wishes not to be identified and I have to report that for about $32.00 per head, our party of 3 were pleased.
For my $32.00, I got a nice Chillean wine, a caprisi salad, a pasta dish with Jumbo shrimp plus a flan desert and a coffee.
All of the above was served up promptly and friendly in a nice atmosphere. For what you get, its a good value.
Thanks VB for telling us about this excellent Italian resturant.
LVSteve

Hey Steve,

I don't mind being mentioned here as the other monger who dined with you and Easy. I just don't think it is necessary for me to get on a "rollcall" just to let people know I'm coming. But usually when I'm there I don't mind letting people know.

This Italian restaurant is definitely a nice restaurant with better than average sitting decor and arrangement but not as fancy/decorated as some in major US and South American cities. I usually order a seafood spaghetti plate at an Italian restaurant, and that's what I ordered. Since this is the only Italian restaurant I have eaten in San Jose and I have no other restaurant to compare the food with here, so I will have to compare it with the food in Rio. The seafood spaghetti here at this restaurant I find it lacking in the sauce and amount of seafood it has in the plate. It has only a few skimpy litte shrimps, calamaris (sp?), and clams. The Italian restaurant in rio and in the US has more, larger shrimps, fish, calamari and thicker, tasty sauce. It was certain edible but not one of the best I've ever had eaten.

The highlights of the dinner were the Chilean red wine (Santa Catarina) and coversation of the company. We each had a dish, split a bottle of wine, a dessert and coffee and split the bill around 16,000 colones per person.

Oh btw, since Steve have decided to stop smoking he has found the food to actually taste better and said that he has been eating more than before. Easy and I decided that Steve should not have a dessert but he can watch us eat our dessert.
