Not at lot of talk on this forum about Tamarindo hence why not much response.

I have never been personally myself to Tamarindo however I like to travel Costa Rica and use this website called mytanfeet.com

it's been mentioned on this forum before and I find it very helpful with info all over the country.

If you are traveling solo, I would recommend flying to Tamarindo as opposed to taking ground transportation. If you are flexible with your schedule you can sometimes get flights that aren't too much more than private ground transportation. I looked and Sansa Air has flights as cheap as $110 each way though I am sure there are upcharges for seat selection and significant baggage. You probably won't find a taxi for that.

And with the iffy road situation, I would not even consider trying to rent a car and drive.

I haven't been to Tamarindo in over five years. Stayed at the Best Western, mid priced and decent on the outskirts of town, maybe a 10 - 15 minute walk to the main bar area. It was guest friendly at that time. Also stayed 2 nights at the Daria. Right in the center of things on the beach. It was pretty pricey but very nice. Not really guest friendly but I did manage to sneak a woman back to the room one night. No telling what the rules were then. Definitely email or call the hotel beforehand if it is important to you.

The articles in that link are all from August 17, 2020 and older.
Here is a more current summary: https://ticotimes.net/2022/10/06/update ... s-pathetic

Truth be told, it IS the rainy season and there are some bad roads but the OP is asking about the road conditions from the Liberia Airport (LIR) to Tamarindo. Also, given his handle, he is likely to be a Tall man named Richard who works for a Car Rental Company so he may be getting some discounts.

Still, I would recommend an airport shuttle to Tamarindo and then Uber/Taxi in town.

As far as sights to see, they will all be in Tamarindo. Bars and Beaches. To the south of town is Playa Langosta which is mostly private homes and condos. However, north of town if you wade across the river mouth (watch the current and crocodiles  ) is Playa Grande which is less developed.

I have been to Tamarindo many times in the last 12 years & it is nice to have a car so you can go to Playa Conchal & Playa Flamingo & see the new marina. There is plenty to see about 25 minutes from Tamarindo!

I agree there is plenty to do if you are looking to drive. Anytime I have gone to Tamarindo I have opted for a small 4WD and explored up to PeƱas Blancas and down to Samara. IMO road issues are more likely to be wash outs rather than landslides. October is not the prime time for this, but TEHO.
