I am coming down to San Jose June 28 through July 7. I signed up to play in the Sportsmens Golf Outing on July 1 and I am planning on bring down my clubs. I've never played in this outing before but it looks like it should be a fun day if it stays relatively dry.

Does anyone want to play some golf in the San Jose area over that time period? I hate the thought of lugging down those clubs for just a single round.

Based on the time of year, I would imagine that the best way to avoid / minimize the rain is to play early morning.

I will be staying at the Castillo for a few days and then moving to the Sportsmens.

If you might be interested in playing just reply to this thread or send me a PM.

Not a golfer, but you or others might find this interesting.

There is a very persistent weather phenomenon in Central and South America called the "Veranillo de San Juan" (little summer of St John). This is a short period in the middle of the rainy season (Two weeks from late June to early July) when the afternoon downpours stop. The exact time varies, but closer to that window CR meteorological service (IMN) can pin it down with great accuracy. It is a good time for golf and a great time for river rafting and outdoor fun. The rivers and vegetation have recovered from the dry season. We haven't yet received the heaviest rains (September & October) so things aren't yet as waterlogged.

I expect this influenced the decision for the date of the SL tourney. IMO, if you can time it well this is the BEST time to visit.

Here is a link to CRHoy's coverage from last year which was correct to the day.

FYI - It gets the name because it is close to the religious holiday, Feast of St John the Baptist.

I wanted to return again for the 4th this year and was interested in possibly play this Golf tournament but the Airline prices have priced me out.

I look forward to your Trip report in a few months HD and some details on the golf tournament if you participate.

After I spoke to you via PM I checked my current itinerary on Delta, June 28 to July 7. I paid approx $500 back in February. The ticket now prices out to $1400. I don't know who is going to pay those prices.

I will definitely give a rundown of the Sportsmens outing g if it happens but I doubt they will get many tourists at those prices. Hopefully some folks booked early like I did. Maybe there are enough expats to fill the slots.
