I am Wulfgar (Dragon's Bane) and I will be in CR from the 9th of January for at least 1 month. I speak Spanish. This is not my first trip, although the last 5 were over 20 years ago. I imagine much has changed. I plan to spend 2 weeks in SJ, then travel around the country for my remaining time. I have a guest-friendly airbnb in Freses, about 10 min by car from the center.

I am hoping to enjoy SJ using the information in this site, perhaps doing some short citas while in town. I would also like to find a companion in this time period to accompany me for my travels. By companion I mean someone who is either a true girlfriend, or someone who I can hire for a reasonable daily fee, as opposed to a very high hourly fee. I will be perusing the threads, but any advice or tips, especially regarding finding a good companion, would be much appreciated.

You won't find a "true girlfriend" so get that out of your mind before you get in big trouble here.

My advice as an ancient greybeard and self appointed authority on all things ho in Costa Rica is troll, take your time, see if a girl clicks with you, enjoy some hourly activity first (push for 2 hours if they don't come down off of what we call "cien" here, you will probably get it.)

Then after meeting one you really like, see if she'll spend more time with you for a volume discount. I don't advise this, but if that's what you want, go for it.

There's also internet hoz, **SPAM LINK******, some other guys more experienced in this venue than me can give you names of other ones, but beware, some are showcasing 5 year old and 20 kilos ago pictures, many have been posted here, so there's that concern...I prefer face to face meetings but many guys have good success with those.

Also if you are going to "travel" with a ho, again not advised, get a copy of her cedula and copy it to your email or something so she knows you have her info and she's less likely to try any funny bizness, many guys get ripped off doing this, they have a total stranger ho traveling with them and don't even know her real name...not smart...

Freses is an OK place to live, but kind of far from everything fun. Also, if you are renting a car the parking garage there is a semi-automated mess. Since your last trip, Uber has definitely become the way to travel in the central valley area and busses for the rest of the country. I find it much easier and cheaper than car rental. Especially, if you speak Spanish. Check the web site for Terminal 7/10 for routes to the Pacific coast and inland and use the MiBus app to book trips to the Caribbean side (out of Gran Terminal del Caribe.

Hey - thanks for the response! Although I'm open to both, to be clear, I'm talking about non-pro girls when I say "true girlfriends". I've pulled this off by meeting girls "by accident" in parks, supermarkets, language exchanges and such. I've also done it using dating sites (by the way - what are the best dating sites for CR?). I've done it in Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, China, Philippines, Russia, Ecuador, Panama, Brazil and Colombia. I was not able to pull it off in France, Ukraine, Canada or the US. I speak all of those languages too (except Vietnamese), which really helps. I'd be very surprised if I wouldn't be able to pull it off in CR, but I appreciate the warning. I also appreciate the safety warnings. But most of all, I appreciate the means for meeting girls! Hopefully I'll get even more info by going through the trip reports. I tried Uber for the first time in Brazil about a month ago, and I am hooked. I drove a car in San Jose once in the 90s, and it was the scariest place I'd ever driven. Oh, ok, I thought you meant you wanted to convert a ho to a girlfriend, most who do that suffer the consequences deservedly, lol.

I'm retired here now, but in 2007-2009, I worked here for an international company running a call center, I was early 50's and still quite dashing and still had thick black hair, not the old broken down war horse I am now...

I was mainly focused on finding and rotating hoz, but to my surprise, many attractive women, non hoz here, waitresses, bartenders, clerical girls I met, even a girl I sat next to and talked to on a bus, mostly between upper 20's and early 40's actually approached me to go out, and I had dates and didn't pay!

I believe the culture here allows still distinguished gentlemen (and me) at that age to get lucky with younger women...

Very cool - I am fortunate to meet such an expert on CR! It sounds like we are both in our 60s then. I also retired in my 50s, and have spent my time learning languages and travelling since then. I prefer the gfe, but I like to do short time on occasion too. Do you live alone now? I'm currently in Colombia, and there is little negative connotation due to age gap here. Hoping it will be similar in CR, but my guess is it won't be quite as open-minded.

Regarding tinder, I've never had much luck with it - it doesn't seem to work well for people of our generation. But that was in the US and Ukraine...does anyone know if are there a lot of pros on Tinder CR? And how about Facebook? In Medellin, over half of the sexy profiles are pros. It's super convenient - I just add girls who "like" pages of known mongering places, and the fb algorithm helps me find more. Can someone suggest mongering fb pages? The fb girls are the absolute best.

What about LatinCupid for hooking up with non-pros? I've had success with other Cupid sites, depending on the country.
