I have so far booked the 4th thru 8th at SL, plan on a stay at Cocal in Jaco for 5 to 7 days, but at a loss for the rest. I figure some days in Fortuna, Tamarindo, and down the pacific to Dominical, MA, and Uvita, but unsure how to distribute the days best. Not looking for a travel day from say Tam to Dom, so having trouble doing effective planning. Open to all Ideas, this trip is primarily to explore relocation in May on a pensionado, so good spots for that are welcome. Also looking to connect with some experienced folks while there, I still don't know what I don't know at this point.

Since you are exploring for a retirement home, I wouldn't lock yourself into any strict timetable as some places you are going to want to explore in depth and others you might immediately dismiss. You won't know until you are on the ground.

The only exception is your reservation at the Cocal as that should be booked well in advance to guarantee availability.

I would also plan on a few days in San Jose specifically focusing on the suburbs like Escazu, Heredia, Rohrmoser, etc. Many expats find it a good area, especially the climate. The beach can be somewhat overwhelming 365 days a year.

I would also check out the Atenas / Grecia area about half way between Jaco and San Jose.

I had planned on spending the last week exploring the Central Valley, not sure if I'll do it out of SL or if that might be a bit too distracting. I have heard great things about Atenas/Grecia as well, so perhaps a day or two there on the way to/from San jose/Jaco would be warranted, if not just for a break to "recharge"

Is it easier to just call the Cocal and reserve over the phone? tried through the website, but they just ended up emailing me a PDF registration form to do it again, no spot for any CRT code either. (got VIP two days ago, already paid for itself with the first 4 nights at SL).

All that's available at Cocal for my days in November is a courtyard room. At $120 a night, I want to stay there, but not sure I can afford it. What's the other champion's spot in Jaco?

Do champions need Air conditioning, sheets and running water?

Nov 11 - 13 is $105 per night and you have to climb a ladder up to the bed. Joe the host does specify "Tap Water safe to drink" as an amenity. No doorman (i.e. security) either.

But hey 15 bucks is real money.

Cadillac Rock is an option for $60 a night. Right next to Rolling Thunder (the old Beatle Bar). I have been staying in an AB&B on the other side of RT called Tropical Condos. TC doesn't appear very chica friendly but an old girlfriend of mine books it for me and she can walk right in to come spend the day or night with me.

I was late to that listing. My Jaco window is the 12th to 16th, and I'm not fond of changing lodging mid-stay. gonna find something good today, or it's an AC room at Clarita's with an orthopedic mattress from 1914.

Cadillac Rock is definitely getting a google search though.

From the Cadillac Rock:

Q: are short-term guests allowed? if not, can I book the room for 2?

A: Good Morning All guests must be registered at the reception, visitors cannot enter the rooms without leaving their identification document at the reception.

Seems kinda Tica-unfriendly. on the other hand, this may be a customary thing, unobjectionable to Ticas, and they don't mention a fee, which is Gud. am I over-reacting and reading too much into that?

That is the norm and is considered chica friendly here.

Also keep in mind that November is the rainiest month of the year for most of CR. Be prepared for possible disruptions and have a Plan B if you plan to visit a lot of places.
