Well, my last trip to Costa Rica wasn't great, but I don't know when I'll ever be able to go to Thailand again. So, I'm going to be in San Jose next month for 5 days.

Looks like I'm going to stay at Sportsman's this time, so if anyone wants to grab a beer while I'm around, let me know.

I don't think you will be spending as much time there as you are thinking. Be aware that gambling in Costa Rica is not like in the USA, no gaming control board and they can cheat all they want. Gambling in CR should be viewed strictly as entertainment and pay attention to your bankroll.

If all goes well I will be in San Jose on Jan 11 thru Jan 22. Will be staying at the Sportsmens. Unfortunately waiting for my renewed passport to be returned from the Feds but it will be a tight window as I am right at their 6 week expedited service window. Normally wouldn't worry but I imagine holidays and Covid will be slowing things down.

I had a friend get his passport renewed just regular service in October and his turnaround time was about 4 weeks.

Thanks for the encouraging words. Four weeks for me was Christmas day. Six weeks will be the Friday before I am supposed to fly the following Monday. I'll start to really worry the Monday after the New Year.

Breadandrice. If I make it out, our trips overlap. Would love to join you for a drink or two and reminisce about SE Asia.

Was supposed to go to Pattaya, Bangkok and the Philippines last October. Obviously it didn't happen. Don't know when we will be able to get back without quarantining. Probably fall if we are lucky.

Hopefully you were able to get your passport. If it's coming down to the wire, call the passport office and see if it's still possible to get service the same day by going to the office.

Passport arrived today.

I will be at the Sportsmens by 2pm on Monday the 11th if flights are on time. Have arranged for transportation by Vanessa so will get there ASAP.

Good thing it made it as there were no in person appointments available anywhere in the USA for same day / next day service. From initial mailing to receipt it was exactly 6 weeks and that was paying for expedited service and Priority Express shipping both ways.

Nice! I get to San Jose around 7:15 on Wednesday the 13th and should get to the SL around 9 that night, depending on traffic. Hopefully I'll be able to find a friend for the night before they close at 10.

You would be correct...,I commented before I learned that it was closed. I’m bummed out that I was not able to experience it....I love places like that. I’m staying at the SL and will probably do SOME gambling at the Taormina.

See you in a few hours!

It is mostly Ticos gambling in the Taormina so maybe the gaming is more "honest" than the casinos that used to cater to the gringos. The del Rey wouldn't have a problem fleecing a two week millionaire but the Taormina mostly relies on small dollar (or colones),repeat business.

Regardless, good luck and save some cash for the chicas.

I just saw on the SL website that a better room than the one I booked came open and they were able to switch my reservation over to it. 26.5 hours to go until I arrive. Hopefully there'll be a friendly tica there to welcome me.
