What are the plans for NYE? I was contemplating spending nye over there, but still deciding since I am not sure what my options are.

When I was there in November, two ticas told me that some bars at el Pueblo were opened past curfew hours until like 5am. Of course I didn't go because my "I am going to get robbed" alarm went off. But I forgot to ask if anyone in the forum have heard such thing.

Just add a pinch of Scopolamine for a night to remember ..... or not.

Don't go anywhere based on the advice of two chicas or anyone you don't know and trust. There are some desperate people here and it will only get worse.

PS. If a chica offers to buy you a drink to celebrate her birthday, you did not just get lucky.

My assumption is the curfew will be on, so NYE will be pretty subdued. My plan is to find a friendly chica, load up my room at the SL with some champagne, and ring in the new year with an overnighter.

Fireworks...... Lots and Lots of Fireworks......... You can buy all sorts of fun stuff, anywhere you see POLVORA advertised. Bottle Rockets, Festival Balls, Roman Candles..... All the fun shit that goes boom and you cannot have in the US I have bought up to 5" Festival Balls that go up 1500+ feet and look like the professional fireworks. Those are not for the faint of heart though and I would suggest a pipe buried in sand at the beach to blow those off. The 1.5 to 2 inchers are a piece of cake in the supplied tube. I use a BernzOmatic TS8000 for lighting mine, you can bring the torch part in your luggage but you will need to buy the Cylinder after you get to CR.

I went to El Pueblo with a couple of Ticas about 10 years ago. And there were a few times I felt a little comfortable and I saw nothing but locals.

Yep, that is why they closed Centro Comercial El Pueblo on Calle Blancos (commonly known as El Pueblo) in 2017 after the third killing in it's narrow alleyways. Last I heard it will soon be torn down for a 4 story building. But hey, if you want to accompany two random hookers to a vacant building lot at 5am in a desperate country, be my guest. I bet they even have their own driver experienced in avoiding the police. Just ignore the rope, plastic garbage bags, and gas cans back. They are just there for ambiance.

Honestly, the OP's plans of a champagne stocked room within the safe confines of the SL make sense. But if some of you guys need more adventure than what you find in a chica's arms, engage an informed, prepared wingman. One that lives here, knows the scene and the players, and stays sober. If you can't do that, stay home.

(just an aside, the ticas were probably referring to an un-named speakeasy in a pueblo (town) rather than the specific El Pueblo location. these are numerous, some only slightly safer than an abandoned building lot. if you don't know the destination, don't go along for the ride)

New Years Eve is not a big party night here. People get together with family rather than going out on the town. There will be plenty of fireworks. The no drive situation after 10pm weeknights will have most here close to home. Want more of a party there is nothing wrong with getting together with other guests at your hotel and planning an in room party. You will not be allowed to use the bar because of the curfew. Probably best option is find a girl for todo la noche with party favors.

Well - new restrictions right across my planned trip including early beach shutdowns. Going to think about it overnight but I'm 90% towards cancelling. :sadface

So my trip is still on, I just shortened it by a few days. I’ll be at the SL from the 30th through the 4th. Looking forward to seeing what the CR women are like, even in these cut back times. Doing one day trip to La Paz, open to suggestions for one other day trip either in the 31st or the 1st.

I'm in town til the 7th. I stopped by SL on the 31st around 6pm for a beer and check out the scene. Looked like a sausage fest. I saw less than ten chicks and about 25 guys. I left went back to Taormina and called a chica from skokka.

There were about 5 or 6 chicks there. Hardly any dudes in the bar. So better odds. I got a number and if my skokka girl didn't show up i would've hooked up with the talent there. Prob a 7.5 asking for cien

Bugsy:

Me & my peeps are heading down on Tuesday. My 65th birthday party. Staying at Castillo, but sure several trips to SL & the casino.

Then down to Golfito for 4 days of fishing @ Zancudo Lodge. No mongering there, unless an unsuspecting tica wanders by and wants some chorizo. :P

Might see you around.
