First trip to CR but not sure I'm a newbie as I've been to the Dominican Republic and am experienced in the States. Don't speak Spanish but I successfully faked my way through the DR and feel I should get by in CR. Cocal thru the 24th, then SL the remainder of the trip. Picked up a burner Blu phone which I hope will work while in the country for Whatsapp, Tinder, Google Voice, ... Didn't prep much for this trip and hope to run across some vets while in town who can share advise on where to go and not go. I've skimmed this site but don't have as much time as I would liked.

You have done enough research to stay at Cocal and SL which are good choices to find vets that can give advice. My experience is SL will be better for hanging at the bar and getting advice. Cocal is a different scene where many will be more clueless than you. Also explains why girls will sometimes ask outrageous prices at Cocal, because there are enough clueless guys that it sometimes works.

Frankly there isn’t a lot of advice needed in Jaco. There are not any real options besides Cocal. Talk to enough girls to understand the going rate and what you can negotiate. Sounds like you have enough experience to avoid the total newbie traps. Other than that, in Jaco advice is where to eat and side trips to possibly take which can be obtained from many sources.

In SJ at SL you will find a different atmosphere consisting of mostly vets. Negotiations are more likely to be straightforward as girls know most guys are experienced. There are plenty of guys at SL that can give you the rundown of the places to visit in SJ. Besides SL you have to visit HDR which will have the largest selection, some of the MPs, and possibly strip clubs. Many more options than Jaco.

Personally, I enjoy both SJ and Jaco and almost always visit both in my trips to CR. There are some strong opinions on the board and I respect their point of view. But, good strategy to visit both and form your own opinion on what works for you.

Thanks Bulldog -- much appreciated. After reading some posts last night and now yours I was almost considering cutting the Jaco visit by a day and spending more time in SJ, but will see how things go when I arrive and play if from there.

If you want info on Jaco, let me know, I just returned from there. But yeah, Cocal is the only place to go. Yes, there are the ruthless mercenaries, girls who will try to talk you into a 3some to get their friend paid, but there are also the genuine sweethearts that will take care of you. Some are local and some are in town in for the weekend. Just take your time and try to interview each one and try not to go for the first one. I also noticed that if you say no to one, and she gives you attitude, then you made the right choice. If you say you're still looking around, and you'll hopefully find her later, and she still has a good attitude, then she's a keeper.
One of my faves on the trip was a local gal who never asked for a drink, but I offered and she got a water. But she did drink when she came back and partied w/us at our place. The negotiations were to party and play and she didn't want me to waste money at the bar. It may be different for you staying at the Cocal. I like to bring girls back to my place w/o a rush and spend at least 2hrs. Sometimes it will turn into TLN and continue through the next day or longer.
