Hey folks, long time lurker first time poster. I'm making my first trip out on Superbowl weekend. Wed and Thurs night at Amistad then out to Jaco Fri-Sun where I am staying at Beach Break (Formerly Morgan's Cove). I think I have the basics down but let me know if I'm wrong or if there is something that you think I am forgetting. 1) A Cien loosely means 50K Colones 2) Lock up everything in your safe 3) Always pay after 4) keep a copy of your passport on you A couple of things I am not sure of. 1) What should I wear around town? Are shorts pretty much acceptable, or do I need to pack some khakis? (If a suit is required I am just not going to that establishment). 2) I am probably going to use Interbus from Amistad to Beach Break. I believe that this can be setup by the hotel correct? On the way back from Jaco (to the airport) I think I'll spend the money for a transportation service. Any that you would personally recommend, or should I just ask the Hotel? 3) My flight leaves CR at 2:30, how early should I plan to get there? Does it tend to take longer than in the states to clear security? Shorter? 4) Anyone here going to be around that week? Want to grab a beer? |

1. 50k Colones used to be around $100.00. But the exchange rate is changed a little. It is closer to 60k colones. I've had a few problems recently when we've agreed on $100.00 and I give them 50k. They know the exchange rate more than me and get quite crabby. I'd recommend either having US dollars to pay for play. Or negotiate in Colones. (not sure why they always want to negotiate in dollars) 2. Always better to be safe than sorry. Locking Passport, extra cash, etc in the safe is best. 3. Paying after is always best they are incentivized to perform better. But realize that sometimes this is easier to negotiate than others. And you'll if she hold her ground on needing to be paid first, do you just pay her and not worry. Or throw her back for another fish. Personally, I haven't noticed that much of a performance difference paying before or after. If you spend more time chatting with them before you reach your room, you'll weed out most of the clock watchers and bad performers. 4. Yep. Best to have a copy of your passport. Color copy is best. Not sure of... 1. Shorts are fine. The only reason to dress in nice jeans or khakis is to look better. And attract girls who like the way you look. Yes, you are paying for sex. But if it is between a younger, attractive man or an older, overweight man, every girl first tries to pick up the guy she is most attracted to. 2. Not sure. 3. What airline? The big thing to worry about is the line for paying the Exit tax. But you only need to do that for certain airlines. The other lines aren't too bad. I always like to be there at least 2 hours to be safe. Then I can relax and get a beer at the bar before my flight. 4. I'm living in Jaco. Hit me up when you are in town. I always love to get a beer. |

on a first trip its best to wear a suit to SL or you might not get in past security once inside, ask people to point out Bill, and if he waves you are good to wear whatever you want like the other guys plus the girls are always impressed by sharp dressed boys ![]() ![]() |

Regarding transport to Jaco, ask Carlos or Rudy at the front desk in hotel amistad if they have a driver going to Jaco the day you're leaving. If so, you should be able to jump in with whoever they're taking or picking up for 25.00 or so where as I think interbus is about 15.00-20.00. Much more convenient and goes directly there. Matt is always looking to help his patrons if it's possible. As for your return, allow time for the return transport, an accident or rockslide could result in a missed flight. 2:30pm departure you should shoot for a 12 noon arrival/check in which means leave jaco by 9:30am or so and hope there's no accidents. 9/10 times that would be fine. Also, you can pay your departure tax before you leave the airport if you have one and you're so inclined. Suerte, Jac |
