First timer here. 60 yo and looking to do some non gulch side trips. I have a question- many of them have non air conditioned lodging. How hot does it feel down there and is a ceiling fan enough?
As long as you stay in the Central Valley on your side trips, you will not need A.C. A side trip to Poas or Irazu volcano, will see temps drop down in the 40's. A side trip down to Jaco, Manuel Antonio, Puerta Viejo or any other city at see level and you are sweating like a pig with temps from 95-102. However, most all good hotels on the coast have a.c. Don't try and save $10 a night for a room with just a ceiling fan. Not worth it.
